How to Save Money at Veterinary Neurological Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Thank you very much for the compassion you had for our dog on his first and only visit while on this Earth. We couldn't have asked for anything more from a staff during the time while there. We are truly grateful, thank you. Rest in peace my love, Chato!

Our precious six year old Frenchie was diagnosed with IVDD. I would first like to start by saying Dr. Laura Stainback was extremely knowledgeable. The facility was great and every single person we worked with was professional and courteous. I will always take my pets to this facility if they have any neurological issues. I also think since this is a review it should be as transparent as possible. I honestly believe these specialists should be properly compensated for the work that they do. Often times I think people subconsciously think that because it's a pet that the cost should be significantly less than it is. However, these specialist are doctors, they are surgeons and perform some pretty fantastic procedures. To get the appropriate level of care your furry family member may need isn't going to be cheap...it's just not when we are talking about neurological issues. I hope that providing the costs in my review gives you a bit more information to make a decision without having the pressure and fear that come with sitting in a waiting room with your pet. MRI- $3,629.62 Spinal Surgery- $6,689.63

Vet Neuro, you killed my dog Susie. I brought Susie to you with class 5 IVDD and I was told by the male doctor that she would have a "90% chance of recovery." I gave you my trust, I gave you $10k do the surgery. Because of the incompetence of the person who placed her catheter, she died from kidney failure. Susie wasn't dying when I brought her to this clinic. I was given back a dog who was quietly dying from kidney infection because your nurse didn't know how to place a catheter in a female dog. I literally called over the weekend to explain that I saw blood in the catheter and I was told "that's normal." I did my due diligence, I watched over her, and she quietly died right in front of me when I could have evaded the surgery altogether and she would still be alive. Give me my money back. I don't need your pathetic hand-written letter explaining how sad you are. You failed to perform your duty. If the surgery didn't fix her condition, that's fine, but instead you handed me back a dying dog and said it would be another $6k to hospitalize her. Susie wasn't dying when I gave her to you. She was dying when I got her back. Susie is dead because of vet neuro, and even if my dogs life depended on it, I would never come back to this place. Your nurse literally handed me my dog and said "here you go" after talking to the doctor that said she was dying. Nobody cared at all. You just took my money and killed Susie. Give me my money back.

This place saved my dog's life!! My dog has received wonderful care at VNC! Dr. Parker is who we usually see and he is so knowledgable and kind. My dog could barely walk and was diagnosed with meningitis when we first visited. He's now well on his way to a full recovery thanks to the doctors and techs here. The customer service is also amazing. Anytime I call with a question or concern I always get a quick response. Thank you so much VNC!

We were devestated to learn that our 5 month old puppy Lulu might be deaf and have neurological issues. Our vet referred us to Veterinary Neurological Center, I was able to get an appointment very quickly and saw Dr. Kim Knowles. The office staff was warm and welcoming and put me as ease immediately. Dr. Knowles listened to my concerns, asked questions, and examined my puppy on the floor. All the while playing and kissing Lulu. Dr. Knowles spent so much time with us and after her exam and tests confirmed Lulu was deaf. She then took the time to reassure me that Lulu would be able to live a very happy, full life. You can tell this is not "just a job" for Dr. Knowles, she truly cares for these animals.
