How to Save Money at Palo Verde Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Liked that I could schedule my pets appointment online. It was sooner than most places in my area for an appointment and the veterinarian did not try to up-sale me for several hundred dollars! She suggested things I could try at home or could purchase locally without a Rx- absolutely loved this! I will be going back.

I have been going to Palo Verde now for many years. Altho it is not the same original practice with Dt. Babcock, I have had no problems with the new staff that took over since then. I am especially happy to see that Orangewood Animal Hospital has joined them. Now you get the best of both worlds! I highly recommend them. Loretta in Phx.

I have been going to Palo Verde Animal Hospital for a few years now. I have had good news visits and bad news visits. Even though the outcomes of the visits are different one thing never changes, the staff. Everyone that works there is a special person. From the vets, the techs, front desk and the new addition of the groomers, everyone is a pleasure to work with. As far as costs, vet offices are expensive no matter where you go. But this is what they do for a living, and it's even harder to do because A) animals don't tell you what is wrong, and B) they have to also deal with the owners who aren't always the best. I will pay the fees. The care credit card is a great option and makes it easier to say yes to treatment. Everyone there treats the animals with respect, dignity and love. Never have I felt like we were in bad hands while at this vet, even when we received the news you don't want. So show your appreciation and tell them that you care, because I know that they care for our pets!

I have had a very good experience here, and appreciate the thorough approach of Dr. Marshcel. I feel like she really listens to any concerns I might bring up with my pup, and takes the time to talk through options if treatment or interventions may be needed. The office is also very transparent about their pricing up front so you know the cost before agreeing to any tests/treatments. I feel very confident in Dr. Marschel and her vet technicians are all pleasant as well. I’ve been taking my dog to Dr. Marschel for years, before she came to Palo Verde, and will gladly continue to do so. I only had one less than 5 star experience there and it was because we saw a fill-in vet when Dr. Marschel was out of the office. While the relief vet was nice, she seemed really rushed and didn’t do a proper exam at all. This experience was more reflective of the relief vet than the clinic itself, and in the future I will make sure to only schedule when I know Dr. Marschel will be there.

I wanted to take my cat in and have 4 hair matt's cut off. The person on the phone stated I would have to see the doctor for a check up in order for the matts to be removed because she was unvaccinated. Well she wasn't vaccinated last time they cut the matt's off so this makes no sense. They want to charge me $120 for 3 minutes of work. I will never go back and I will be telling everyone I know personally and professionally not to go here. I guess this is why the parking lot is always empty. To the vet reply........Don't be condescending, you people only care about squeezing every penny out of people. Instead of being pieces of sht try being helpful.
