How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

How Do You Choose the Right Pet Insurance Provider?

Pet Insurance Review makes it incredibly easy for pet parents to select an insurance provider they feel good about. You can use our handy comparison tool to get the gist of what a company offers. Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff & Doctors are absolutely AMAZING!!! My dog was bit by another dog. I was very upset & scared for my baby girl. I adopted her approximately 2 months ago & she was so very timid. She has since blossomed. I was so worried that this dog bite was going to traumatize her. I was more traumatized than she was & the Blue Pearl team reassured & comforted us both. Thankfully the bite was not very severe. The staff & Doctor treated & welcomed us with kind, caring open arms. Addie is healing well. I HIGHLY suggest this emergency hospital!!! THANK YOU to ALL of the STAFF & DOCTORS💕

UPDATE: Don't believe anything they tell you if you value your pet's life. A vet Ive known for 30 plus years 1,500 mi away was able to give me better diagnosis results and had me get the right medications... exploratory surgery would have killed her. So many one-star reviews in full detail... Fake ones obvious. Had to wait over an hour after appointment. Even then the doctor for the consultation didnt show. When he finally did it was clear they hadn't reviewed anything the previous ER location sent. I Only wanted a consultation (of which I got a textbook statement), medication to ease the stress, and nothing non evasive... Had to keep repeating I just wanted to ease her passing not make her suffer just to keep her around to make me happy. Money was not the issue here. Then had to wait another hour for just having the pills put in a container that cost 4-5x as much from anywhere else giving an already stressed suffering dog more anxiety. So much staff yet completely ignored... Had to go to the desk multiple times and if I hadn't I'm sure the process would have taken twice maybe even three times as long. They kept trying to convince me to do overnight stays and observations which were completely against what I was trying.... My goal was to comfort her passing and get the treatment for what I suspected was the issue even if it was only 10% chance... She is an older dog she wouldn't have handled surgery well. That made no difference to what they were saying. If they didn't have time I could have come back. At least to pick up the meds if it would take over an hour. It looks like reading the reviews this is common practice for them. Maybe they delay people enough so they are forced to do overnight stays and charge them for that. Only reason it's not 1-star is the doctor was qualified but clearly overworked. Due to the lack of attention I decided to take the recommendation of a friend Vet 1,500 miles away with 40 years more experience and just take the meds and see how it goes. I'm sure their services would be outstanding, if you can acquire their attention to do so. Their client handling and indifference leaves a lot too be desired at the worst moments people face in their lives. Looking at the reviews I'm revising it back down to one star. There's clearly a pattern of awful service here. I can only guess the five star reviews are by reputation protection systems. I wish I had looked at this before I went there but my mind was elsewhere. You will not get the services you ask for but be prepared to be ignored unless you choose whatever they say which in my case would have been far worse as if it is the infection that we suspect it would have killed her there. When a veterinarian 1,500 mi away can give you better information and advice from just looking at low res images and reading data in a few minutes then what they claim to provide you're not of any interest to them unless you agreed to pay over $10,000 for their services. I'm lucky I had an old client friend that was this responsive to my distress. If I had believed everything they told me and went by their recommended procedure and it was the infection I suspect (what they don't tell you is they only vaccinate for the three worst kinds when there are many others) she would have died. At least now she's having some wonderful days and having a quality of life even if it's for a week instead of suffering and dying at their hands. Her strength is picking up and she's doing better. She's eating. And she's happy and bouncy. She's not anywhere near healthy but she is enjoying several hours a day which she actually has to enjoy. All from a consultation for free from an old friend and client 1,500 mi away and not listening to if you could even call a consultation that was paid for with overpriced prescriptions and duplicative ones. When there are five star solid reviews and one star solid reviews you have to wonder.... But all the one star ones say the same things and I wish I had time to review those before I ever went here.

Our visit to Blue Pearl pet hospital went better than I could’ve imagined. They got our cat in right away and had him all taken care of and ready to go home faster than expected. The staff was very kind and treated our little boy very well. It’s been a week since we saw them and our cat is doing so much better and back to feeling his happy self again! We definitely will keep them in mind if an emergency were to occur again! Thank you for providing relief and healing for our little guy!

Our sweet Terrier became suddenly ill. We rushed him to the hospital and their care and compassion was wonderful. Sadly, Django dodged not recover, but from beginning to end the hospital was caring and considerate of our feelings and Django’s care.

Nurse Nicole, Dr. V and Dr. Schnier were all incredible and this hospital was truly committed to getting my F2 Savannah cat Sterling back to his healthy self. They even helped me to utilize another overnight care facility (VEG) where I was able to spend the night with my cat to ease his anxiety and keep him purring the whole night with me at his side. Truly a wonderful facility and staff and I would recommend them to anyone with any pet health issues.
