How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The employees at BluePearl are so helpful, compassionate and kind. This week, our dog Rey was extremely sick and we brought her to this location. We were greeted immediately and Rey was quickly taken back to be evaluated. We were helped by Jennifer, Meagan and Dr. Paylor. They truly care about the animals they care for. Communication was great. They provided multiple updates on Rey and they took wonderful care of her! She is now back to her playful self!

It’s always stressful when your pet suddenly becomes ill and needs to be assessed quickly. I like most cringed at how much the bill might be but this is my 6 month old baby so I went flying in. They called triage to the front, took some info from me and a quick signature to start care. Thankfully her reaction to a bee sting I noticed quickly and got her in time for medications to stop the reaction. I’m a nurse so it’s not as if I don’t know the basics. They kept me informed and I was in and out in about 1.5 hrs with a puppy on the mend. Bill was not over the top for the services performed. I see so many posts claiming 1000’s and still not well. Mine was three bills which I found appropriate given cost of standard daytime vet. They were kind and took care of my baby. I would definitely use them again.

The team at BluePearl was very professional and caring to our Bentley boy. We rushed Bentley here after he had a grand mal seizure. The team was waiting and ready to help. Even though we had to make the difficult decision to put our boy to sleep, they took such good care of him. Thank you ❤️

If I could provide a zero I would. Poor bedside manner of veterinarian. Our pup was left in a cage alone following a seizure. After our dog was evaluated by her regular veterinarian, we learned unnecessary treatment was suggested. It seems this facility is hungry for sales. We couldn’t wait to get her back home.

Rushed our 14wk-old puppy into BluePearl yesterday (Saturday) when she suddenly collapsed out of nowhere and became unresponsive. We arrived at the lobby in a panic and were received by a loving and caring front office staff who handled our grief with immediacy. During our wait in the lobby, I saw many tragic scenes play out and was so impressed with how BluePearl's staff handled the anxiety and stress going on among the other families. Yes, there can be a long wait - but there is a monitor that you can watch which keeps you up-to-date on where your pet is in the triage/exam/treatment process. Their staff took photos/video of our puppy in the back so we could feel close to her while we waited. The nurse working with us, Jennifer, provided us with such wonderful support throughout the entire ordeal. Dr. Kathryn McAdam was also very thorough and patient with us; she answered all of our frantic questions with real compassion. We ended up opting for half of the procedures recommended due to our limited budget and the staff was very respectful of our decision and immediately implemented our choices. I knew when we left last night that our puppy had received the best possible care. I am happy to say that the actions taken by Dr. McAdam and her staff last night saved our puppy's life - she woke up responsive and alert this morning. We thank you Dr. McAdam, Jennifer, (and the rest of the staff) for all your hard work and dedication yesterday to save Winnie's life!
