How to Save Money at Bark Avenue Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
They were wonderful 2 years ago when I had to put our 20 year old cat to sleep. However, since then I have never been able to get in. Whenever I call they never have availability for any of my cats/dogs. As great as that is for them being so busy, it just is a bummer for my pets as I really felt comfortable with them. I do take them elsewhere but I really liked Bark Avenue and their staff.

Staff is absolutely wonderful. One of my sweet girls is extremely anxious at the vet. She is super loud and wiggly and doesn’t make it too easy on them. Dr Carson and the vet techs have taken extra time to sit on the floor with my pups and give them the extra loves and patience they deserve. As a dog groomer and dog mama, I am beyond grateful for how loving and sweet they are with the not so easy pets. I feel so safe bringing my dogs here.

Dr Z was excellent with our dog and quickly diagnosed his fatty growths. She recommended a quick procedure that quickly confirmed her diagnosis and set our minds at ease.

I originally went to Bark Ave to see if they had the brand of cat food that I normally buy but hadn’t been able to find in AZ since moving. Unfortunately they didn’t carry it but they did offer to special order it for me which was wonderful! I was able to pick it up in just a few days once they got their shipment. While I was there, I noticed the pet hospital and grooming area so I went over to check it out. The receptionist was very kind and even gave me an approximate quote on some of the services I inquired about. I then set an appointment for a consultation and bloodwork since it was time for my dogs dental cleaning. I met with Dr Brown and Rafael who were both so kind and knowledgeable. Later that day I got a call from Dr Brown that his blood work was good and we were good to go for his dental the next morning. I was kept up to date on his progress throughout the day and his teeth and breath were 100% better when he left! A little bit after that I brought my other dog in to see Dr. Ainsworth (who they were able to see as a same day appointment which is extremely accommodating and convenient) and he was also very professional and knowledgeable. He made sure to get back to me regarding test results and check on my dogs progress. I highly recommend this vet office and pet supply store. I haven’t had an experience with grooming or daycare/boarding but I’ve seen several happy clients and doggos going in and out of the area so I’m sure they’re wonderful as well!

I have been bringing both of my dogs (Bean and Cody)here for 10 years. Over the last few years I've noticed we never see the same vet as so many other reviewers seem to have the good fortune to do. For the most part up until the last 12-18 months I’ve had no complaints. But as I have just returned home from a scheduled appointment that did not happen for the second week in a row I decided to write a review of my experience. Last week 21 November My dog had a follow-up with the vet scheduled (the same vet that did nothing for my dogs extremely elevated liver enzymes that a local emergency vet did address). As I pulled into the Bark Avenue driveway my wife called to tell me they are rescheduling as Bean only needs to see a vet tech for a lab draw. That brings me to today. I arrived for the scheduled blood draw to learn they do not have a room and we’re free to wait wherever we’re most comfortable. About 15 minutes later someone comes outside to tell me that we have the wrong type of appointment scheduled, meaning the appointment that I had on 21 November is the appointment I needed today. Twice I’ve taken my dog to his least favorite place in the world only to be turned away (in a manner of speaking). My other dog came in earlier in the year for his annual exam and immunizations, one of which required lab work. The lab work was not done requiring me to bring Cody back to the office for the blood draw. It truly is the little things that add up over time. Maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s just my dogs, but the level of care and professionalism doesn’t seem to match what I would expect and what it would seem many others are receiving. I don't know where the issue truly lies as I have never had a poor interaction with the staff, (front desk and vet techs) they have always been polite and professional, maybe it is an issue with the providers and or the management?
