How to Save Money at Alma School Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was just trying to call to get an appointment and I was hung up on 5 times before I could even speak to somebody! Then when I called back, the receptionist basically didn’t care. There is no place for apathy in the veterinary world. People care deeply about their pets. We called another animal hospital and the phone was answered right away and they were able to get my pet in immediately. Thanks to Ahwatukee Commons Animal Hospital. She is doing just fine. You were warned about Alma School…

My whole litter of puppies survived because this amazing team was willing to come in on their day off to do an emergency c-section. I couldn’t possibly be more grateful!!

THE BEST ANIMAL CLINIC EVER!!!!! I have so much to say about how incredibly amazing everyone is here. I cry tears of joy just knowing I can trust all my fur babies with anyone working here. It’s truly a blessing that I finally found/have a trusting, supportive, affordable and honest animal clinic I can come to whenever my babies need the best health care.

Do not go here . After 8 years using Alma school vet hospital we were shocked at the prices and care. It’s all about money. Paid for 3 X-rays they did 1 ! Told us blood work was excellent no issues ! 100% lie ! Our dog suffered over the weekend , took him back Monday they gave him iv fir fluids and steroid shot to stop vomiting all this I had to demand !! Day later I had to request pain killer again ! Finally got it $1019 later find out only 1 X-ray was taken and they told us blood work was in perfect order ! All lies !!! He pushed for surgery and kept repeating how expensive it will be !! told us his liver was enlarge and was in need of surgery $$$$. Dr. Left room to give us a moment to talk about it , he is in the hallway outside of our door , we hear him tell the other vet our dog was laying funny during X-ray and makes it appear he has enlarge liver !! I was shocked to hear this . We stayed calm just paid bill and left . Got 2 different vets to look at our little guy . 2 different places did blood work only no xrays needed . They both came up with same answer pancreas and kidney infection / and shutting down ! Showed us the blood work they did It was off the charts .Not perfect ! Very scary results !! We decided to go with Guadalupe / Gilbert location new vet immediately gave medication to stop inflammation and made sure we had proper food and pain killer and started serious 3 visit iv flushing of system within 2 nd treatment 2 nd day our dog was walking again and pee and pooping was not falling down anymore . 1 more treatment . We asked Alma school for our X-rays and blood work charts we paid for they refused . So the new vet sent a request and called on phone , they said they put request in but never sent over , I called they refused to give up our records . Our new vet and staff spent so much time with us they Explain everything , showed us blood work explain levels . Get home I get email from new vet on information on my dogs condition and a site to go to for more information . Amazing They called to check on him next day . Amazing place . Many of my clients mention this vet thru the last 2 years but I was so stuck on Alma school vet because close to home . Avoid Alma school vet on Guadalupe rd in Mesa ! U will get smiles from vet but front desk girl nasty mean unwelcoming this place comes with a big price tag that’s outrageous and wrong health information and billed for X-rays that are not done !! They want to perform unnecessary surgery that would done nothing for our dog !!! Surgery $2800-$7800 if all went well ! Please run from this place !! Save ur animal.
