How to Save Money at Western Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I stumbled upon this place when looking for a nearby vet for my new puppy at the time. Yes, they are a bit pricier but that’s likely because Dr. Petcu sees every pet himself. I personally am not aware of another Dr that works there. Even with a small staff, their wait times are surprisingly shorter than any other place I have been to. Their waiting room is often full which is a sign that this Dr has taken the time to build trust and rapport with his clients and their pets. They’ve never been rude. He always comes to talk to me about whatever he plans to do with my pet. They don’t let you back with your pet because owners can make their pets more anxious believe it or not. My dog seems to do better when I’m NOT in the room with her although she is really challenging to deal with and they take it with grace. Some of these reviews are saying this place is “all about the money.” Of course it is, it’s a BUSINESS and professionals should be paid for their services irrespective of your feelings. It takes nearly a decade to become a DVM and rest assured, any doctor should recoup the expenses they paid to even become qualified to treat your sick pet. I get it, a lot of doctors can be assholes but this doctor is not one of them. He may not be the most jovial, but it’s clear he cares about his job so all y’all need to chill out.

I believe in supporting local businesses and this place has good reviews so I tried for YEARS to make it work. Once they find out you care about an animal they will upcharge like nothing else. In order to get a refill on two ($40 each) medications, they wanted $1000. They can print invoices asap, but can't print the health record. I have 7 pets, so I have paid for a lot of different services over the years and have a good idea of what different things cost. I do love my pets and hope that I can find a clinic soon where I don't have to question every line item on the bill. This is not the economy for that Since the owner wants to argue: 1. do you think we go in without doing research? Do you think we don't know that prednisone is $3 and interferon is $1-20 depending on quality? We were happy to get fleeced for the 20x markup so that we could support your local business. You saw that and thought - we have 2 morons don't that don't question prices. 2. We just did bloodwork last year. You said it yourself June TWO THOUSAND TWENTY THREE. Any time we bring any of our 6 cats in, we don't leave with anything less than a $300 bill. Again - in this economy you were pushing to see how much you could get away with. Absolutely inhumane. 3. We missed one appt after you needed to reschedule. And in terms of behavior, the unprofessionalism of your response speaks for itself. I wish I would have seen your responses to the other negative reviews before going the first time so that I would have known the true quality of services here. No wonder the one good thing about your office - the receptionist, is no longer there. Good luck, you're going to need it.

If you ever have a pet sick on the weekend and you're in Glendale. You may want to try this place. I called many vet offices and was routed to very far urgent care offices with no available appointments. Thankfully this place picked up the phone, my cat is much better. Kind of pricey, but lots cheaper than emergency care.

Ive been going to Dr.Pectu's office since my baby peanut was a little puppy. That was my first pug and i now have 3 pugs and i live in Arizona City, but i drive all the way to Glendale because they have been so helpful and actually care. They have worked with me to fit around my schedule and any issue ive had, they have always been there. Whether its just advice or fitting us in for something urgent, i know i can always count on Western Amimal Hospital to be there for my babies.
