How to Save Money at Glendale Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have taken all my fur babies here for years. They are always great, friendly, and knowledgeable. The staff feel like they really care about your fur babies and listen to what you want to do and don't. Wouldn't take my fur babies anywhere else.

I just love the vet and all the staff that are there! They're amazing, so helpful and so amazing with our dog. Our dog loves going there and so do we! I'm so glad that my brother recommended us to go there. She's been going since a couple of years now. I love this place!!

I am very frustrated with this vet clinic. I have brought two dogs here both with high needs. If your dog has high needs you will need to seek care elsewhere. My first dog, Milo, was a wonderful caring dog who suffered from epilepsy. After 1 medication he started having more and more breakthrough seizures and they told me “he will be fine”. He was not fine and a few months later I had to put him down after he seized for 24 hours. My second dog, Rocky, has trust issues, does not like new and strange people, and is defensive at others that he does not know. I started bringing him as a 4 month old puppy in the hopes that they would mark down his traits and help me with solutions. They suggested training so I spent over $1,000 at a wonderful training facility. In order to continue his training he needed his shots updated when they expired. When I brought him in for his appointment they refused to see him because I didn’t give him a sedative that they never refilled the prescription on. I had called prior to the appointment to refill the prescription and they never responded to my request. Prior to being seen I muzzled him per their request and they didn’t even bring him inside door. They kept saying that he is too aggressive to treat but didn’t offer any solution other than training (which I can’t professionally do because his shots are expired) and a sedative (which they won’t refill due to not seeing him in a year). I broke down then and there asking them for their professional advice because I needed help with a solution. They suggested finding another vet. So I did. The experience was extremely frustrating and there seemed to be a lack of empathy towards my situation.

I have been bringing my three dogs and one cat to Glendale Animal Hospital for the past 3-4 years. While the veterinary care has generally been satisfactory, my experiences with the front desk staff and their curbside appointment system have been consistently negative. First and foremost, the front desk staff is horrible. They exhibit poor customer service, are often rude, lack empathy, and are not solution-oriented. Rather than trying to be helpful, they tend to be passive, patronizing, and unhelpful. Anytime I ask a question or seek clarification, it feels like a huge inconvenience to them. Their "fake nice" tone is beyond passive-aggressive and rude. This behavior is not isolated to one individual; multiple staff members display this attitude, indicating that it may be an accepted norm at this practice. However, there is one younger girl with longer brown hair who is always nice, helpful, and kind, which is a rare exception. As for the pricing, it is on par with other vet offices, but given the quality of service, I feel they are overcharging and underperforming. Half of the reason I am leaving this practice is due to the front desk staff. The other reason is their "curbside appointment" system. The curbside appointment process involves staying in your car while a vet tech takes your pet into the vet office for the exam. They say the vet will call you during the appointment if needed, and the vet tech does a basic checklist of questions before taking your pet. However, I have had several appointments of this variety, and only once has the vet actually called me. All the other times, the vet tech just comes out with a bill and a checklist of things like an oil change appointment. I find it too impersonal. It seems like they are rushing to cram in as many animals as possible and not spending adequate time hearing my concerns, examining my pet, and communicating with their customers. To me, this is very poor bedside manner. If I am paying vet office fees and other charges, I want to know that my pet, who I consider family, is being treated like a valued member of my family and not a piece of property I'm dropping off for an oil change. I understand the need to streamline appointments, but even if the vet were to check in with me for 1 or 2 minutes after the appointment, I would feel more of a connection and like they actually cared about my pet and not just like a check on a list. I stayed at this office because my elderly dog is comfortable and familiar with this location. However, after the lack of care, compassion, and the rude customer service, I will no longer be bringing my pets here.

If I could give this vet no stars I would. They are greedy, and money hungry and do not care about the wellbeing of your pets whatsoever. It’s so sad that I was taken advantage of but I warm anyone coming here to look else where!
