How to Save Money at Durango Equine Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I would highly recommend Durango Equine for any services you may ever need. The doctors are extremely knowledgeable, very compassionate towards you and your horse and the situation at hand-- and available for you 24/7. Whether you are boarding, need regular care, or emergency care, Durango Equine is always there for you and your horse(s). I cannot say enough good things about them. As a long time equine owner of several horses, they have been and always will be my veterinarian group. I trust absolutely no one else but Dr Grady, Dr Cooper, and Dr "P".

Outstanding doctor and staff. Took one of our mares that injured herself in to see Dr. Cooper for an emergency and she was ready when we showed up. She lets you know what is going on and answers any questions that arises. The work she did was amazing and I would highly recommend anyone to use her in the need of an equine vet. Thank you Dr. Cooper for be an amazing doctor.

I had an unexpected need for care of my mare on a late Sunday afternoon. Dr Cooper was amazing right off the bat, from texting great communication on when to meet her at the clinic, to the time of arrival where she and her team were ready for my arrival. My mare is not an easy girl to deal with at times, but Dr Cooper was amazing with her. Knowing that she needed sedation immediately to keep her stress down and keep her compliant. Dr Cooper did amazing with suturing up her wound, even with the hurdles that presented. Then after all was said and done, my mare would not get in the trailer to go home. It was incredible to see Dr Cooper and her team give all they could to help get her in the trailer, talk about amazing care and true passion for their patients. I will not take my horses anywhere else, Dr Cooper and Durango Veterinary are simply AMAZING. Sixer and myself are truly appreciative for everything you did for us.

Dr. Morgan Poisson was wonderful with me and my 27 year old mare Lady that I had to put down. It was a very difficult decision for me and she was so kind, and thoughtful. It made a very tough time as peaceful and comfortable as it could be for both of us. Thank you Morgan for that.

I could not be any more happy with the experience I had today 4/5/23 our mare had suffered a terrible wound and it was pretty deep wound it was an emergency and needed assistance ASAP and when I called Durango Equine Clinic they were nothing but helpful and very attentive people they were able to go off schedule in able to come out to our property and take care of our mare. When she was in the clear they provided medication as well as a list of instructions on how to give the medical dose and timing. Again couldn’t be more thankful for what they did.
