How to Save Money at South Arkansas Emergency Veterinary Service

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Truly cannot believe the way my aunt was treated today. Brought her pet in because he had burnt his little feet, and when she asked why he was doing adjustments on his neck and not looking at his feet which was the entire reason she was there, she was screamed at and was told to get out of his clinic. It is appalling that a medical professional can treat someone in distress so terribly with no remorse or empathy. As someone in the medical field myself, I’d warn others to stay far away and am surprised someone like this still maintains an active license. Response update - You wouldn’t listen to her. You were trying to perform unnecessary chiropractic adjustments on his neck. She rescued the squirrel when it was just days old- it would have died otherwise. I think YOU should be reported and you should be embarrassed by the way you respond to these legitimate negative reviews. An apology would have gone a long way, but your ego clearly can’t handle the that. Will be filing a formal complaint.

WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING!!! PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! I brought my beautiful "fur baby* Molly into this vet clinic for an emergency C-section, and Bob said that it was no problem and said that I could pick her up the next afternoon. The next day I got there to pick her up and they proceeded to tell me that her uterus was removed which was never discussed with me previously, then I got her home and she wouldn't eat and anytime she would try to drink some water she would throw it up and when she did this blood and fluid came pouring out of her incision so I immediately called the clinic and rushed her back and showed them the leakage and they said that that was normal to bring her back if it was leaking any puss, so I got back home and she just proceeded to get worse so I took her back and Bob said that she was going to be fine he was going to flush her stomach with a saline solution, and said she will be home before Christmas. The next morning (about 13 hours later) Bob texted and said she had passed away and that the surgery that, I didn't ask for, must have been to much for her to handle, she was in perfect health when I brought her to have the C-section, I can't believe I paid this man to kill my baby in less than three days because he performed an unnecessary and fatal procedure. My beautiful baby was unnecessarily taken away, leaving a hole in my soul. The lack of communication and misguided actions displayed a shocking disregard for the well-being of my furry family member. This was a very painful and irreparable experience that should never happen to any pet owner. Please, take your loved ones ANYWHERE else but here! IF WE WAITED TOO LONG THEN WHY DID YOU TELL US THAT SHE WAS GOING TO BE JUST FINE AND I COULD PICK HER UP THE NEXT DAY, AND THEN YOU PROCEEDED TO LET ME TAKE HER HOME AFTER WHICH I HAD BROUGHT HER BACK AND YOUR STAFF INFORMED ME THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND TO NOT WORRY UNLESS THERE WAS PUSS COMING OUT OF HER STITCHES (OR HACK JOB OF AN INCISION)? THEN WHEN I BROUGHT HER BACK FOR THE THIRD TIME YOU SAID NOT TO WORRY THAT YOU WOULD HAVE HER HOME BY CHRISTMAS? DO YOU NOT REMEMBER THE TEXT MESSAGES YOU SENT? Hi, this is Dr. Bob Molly did not respond to any of the inducements to induce labor. She's full of infection so we're gonna remove the entire uterus this morning as soon as my staff comes in. Hi this is Dr. Bob this is Molly's uterus or what's left of it we removed it was in terrible shape prognosis for recoveries pretty good now she'll be going home this afternoon Dr. Bob told eddy following the surgery to bring her back up there if she begins to have any leakage. So eddy did yesterday morning about 8:00 am. And Dr. bob wasn't present at that moment and his staff turned him and Molly away and said that that was normal leakage. By 6 pm the same day we rushed her back up there the video I sent you I also sent to Dr Bob and he said no that's not normal get her back up there And by 7 am this morning he's telling me she passed Hi this is Dr. Bob. Very sorry to tell you that Molly passed. It was just too much from all of the complications of her surgery. Please give us a call after nine or so SO WHEN WAS IT THAT YOU INDICATED THAT WE WAITED TOO LONG TO BRING HER IN, IF WE BROUGHT HER IN TOO LATE THEN WHY DID YOU WAIT TIL YOUR STAFF ARRIVED IN THE MORNING? YOU DON'T DESERVE THE DR. IN FRONT OF YOUR NAME YOU LYING SACK OF CRAP, YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A QUACK...

Had the pleasure of meeting Dr Bob today for 12 wk puppy shots for my 2 mini dachshunds. Very pleasant conversation & enjoyed learning about his business & the calm information he gave me about my pups. Thank you for your kind efforts in direction & explaining all the questions I asked.

Thank you, Dr Bob. I brought my dog into the clinic on an emergency basis on a Sunday night and incredibly happy that Dr Bob offered emergency care as I could not find another place available that would see my dog! Dr Bob diagnosed my dog (and named him Lucky) with Bronchopneumonia and was able to get him the help he needed! I was welcomed to visit Lucky while he recovered in their care. Thank you to the wonderful vet techs that took good care of Lucky and gave him good loving! I am forever grateful. Sara Goodrum
