How to Save Money at Fort Smith Veterinary Wellness and Urgent Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Such a welcoming and safe environment! They are quick and efficient and the head vet is DEFINITELY the cat whisperer. Both our kitties have been well cared for here

I really just can’t say enough good things about this place. I’ve always had animals so I’ve been to a lot of different veterinarians over the years. This is honestly one of the best ones I’ve ever been to. Dr. DeRycke has been so great. She treats my dog so well and has been very thorough. She doesn’t rush you through the appointments, she is honest about what to expect, and takes time to explain everything in detail so you’re not left confused. Her staff has been wonderful, too. The way they treat my girl Libby when she goes in speaks volumes. They make sure to make your babies as comfortable as possible while they are there. You can tell that they genuinely care for the animals well being. I’m so happy I found this place for my babies ❤️

When I say the doctor and her team are VERY sweet, caring, and will love on your fur babies I mean it! The doctor is truly passionate about her career and it shows. I’ll always bring my fur baby to them for what ever they need. He always gets lots of cuddles and kisses when he goes to his checkups! ❤️ Highly recommend!

Our 4 month dachshund, Koda tested postive for Parvo. We had a long week with ups and downs. He just wasn't getting any better . Our vet transferred us to FORT SMITH Veterinary wellness and urgent care due to them being closed on the weekends. Let me tell you, from the moment we stepped foot in this place, it was amazing. The atmosphere, the staff and most all Dr. DERYCKE. She was in the room and diagnosed him with a problem within 2 mins. She said he should be better after 5 days of meds.He wasn't and we needed a xray to confirm her diagnosis. She got a 2nd opinion to confirm and she was right. Our lil guy had surgery within 3 hours. She kept us informed all the way. She stayed with him overnight and since they are closed on Sundays, she took our baby home to watch over him after his surgery. To me, that is above and beyond. She gave our baby a fighting chance, and my family and I will forever be greatful to her for caring and loving our fur baby. So, if your looking for a caring veterinarian for your fur baby, look no more. Trust this place. I'm so glad we did.

Let me start off by saying that these people are absolute angels. Dr. Derycke and the techs are the most sweet and caring people. Although I had to make a tough decision that nobody should have to make for my Chaos girl, they were completely understanding and handled her with such care. If I ever get another pet these people will be my go to. Thank you guys so much for taking such care and having compassion for my beautiful girls final moments 🩷
