How to Save Money at The Family Pet Vet
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

After hearing the word fatal a few times before coming to her I was emotionally having a very hard time, she was stern with me but so so very kind through the entire process, which was EXACTLY what I needed. I've had a hard time trusting veterinarians with my now 17yr old Chihuahua only because when we've taken her in the past they were not kind or gentle with her at all, and no I don't expect others to set her on a golden pillow and fan her with fancy leaves. I won't mention the horror stories and it's only happened with a handful of places we've been across the US but I could honestly just tell I could trust her and "The Family Pet Vet" crew with my life (aka my pixie). So grateful for this veterinarian Dr. Ashley, the staff, and the techs. Each day I get with her is a blessing, from 8 years old to 25, she's been my best friend and I know I don't get to have her forever but these guys are making sure she stays healthy and happy while I've got her. Thank you.

Great place to take your pet. They were very attentive to Casino's, my cat, needs. They were very kind and careful when checking him out for his yearly check up. The doctor he listened to everything I said and answered all my questions in regard to Casino's health. We didn't even have to wait; they were very prompt.

Dr. Rice & every single person at this clinic are so loving & compassionate. When we had one of the hardest days of our lives, they were so incredibly supportive. We crossed state lines to take our beloved Jake there to know we were confident there was nothing else we could do to help him. They gave that assurance to us along with the best closure we could possibly have. They had previously taken care of my babies with amazing gentleness, the same with my Mom's babies, & literally saved my bestie's baby on his death bed during the pandemic (Tuna Socks). I cannot recommend these loving people enough to take care of your babies.💗💗💗

We are in Eureka Springs on vacation when our tiny Yorkie (Chloe) developed severe GI symptoms. The Family Pet Vet was able to see her the same day I called, and the staff were all amazing!! From the first call, Tracy was so friendly and helpful, to the visit, Shelby and Dr Ashley were so kind and treated my little Chloe with so much loving care! Along with Chloe, we also have two Morkies. Jax, our little man morkie, had milder GI symptoms I mentioned to Dr Ashley. Without hesitation she asked me if I could bring him in to be seen also! Dr Ashley determined our furkids were experiencing some stress induced GI symptoms from our travels and I was assured they would be just fine. They are both doing fantastic, just a day after our visit to The Family Pet Vet, and I am so thankful for the staff who cared for us and treated my furbabies so well. I would definitely be seeking my veterinary care from this clinic all the time if we lived in the area! And just a side note, the cost wasn’t near what I expected either!! Thank you again!
