How to Save Money at Healing Hands Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The vet as well as all of the employees were very good! You can tell they care about your pet & they actually listen to what u have to say. The diagnosis & treatment were spot on! I found a kitten that had been hit & left in the road. She also had a respiratory infection which the vet said was very common for feral/stray cats. They only charged what was needed without tacking on unnecessary meds or treatments. Thats saying allot these days!! Beautiful building. I highly recommend this vet! P.S. The pic of her laying on her back is on the ride home from here. She wasn't a bit stressed! They're great!! 2/28/2023 Update! We had to come back today for vaccines and flea meds. This is her now. Still the best vet! Love the vet & his staff 100% recommend coming here!

I had two experiences at this vet recently and I won't be back. I will start by saying that if money doesn't matter to you this is probably a good vet to go to. They are super sweet and knowledgeable in the vets office. But they over charge by a lot.. I took my dog there who had a seizure for the first time.. they charged a little over 200 dollars to do blood work and said they couldn't prescribe me anything unless she had more than one seizure.. well an hour and a half later she had another.. but vets were all closed.. throughout the night she had 4 more.. for a total of seven.. so I woke up and took her to the Ozark vet clinic as soon as they opened.. they charged me 20 dollars for the visit and the medication they gave me( it wasn't even epilepsy meds bc the vet said it could still not be epilepsy.. so he gave us valium. My dog has not had another seizure since..)healing hands said they couldn't prescribe epilepsy medicine without more than one seizure but we didnt even need epilepsy medicine! The valium helped stop the seizures perfectly. Then I took her back to healing hands bc they had said when I was there for the seizures that they had a shot that would be 60 bucks exactly( before tax).. I asked the exact price bc I am on a budget and have to be thoughtful.. well after they had already given her the shot, I find out she had to have two shots bc of size so it ended up being over 100 dollars.. this really really bothered me bc I asked for the price of the treatment ahead of time FOR A REASON. And just like human doctors offices they didn't tell me the full amount until treatment was already done. Which is not good practice in my opinion. Ps.. I won't be back to this vet bc of how pricey they are.. but I do want to give them credit for this cool box they had in the room for lost pets.. it's a really nice idea. I lost my baby boy recently and it did feel nice to write his info down to be remembered.

Brought my Yorkie Pickles in when a health concern arose. They were able to get us in quick, properly diagnose and get him on the right med to relieve the issue. An employee even called us a few days after our appointment to check on Pickles! We have been also getting preventative dog meds for all 3 of our dogs through the clinic. We would recommend this vet clinic to others and will continue to use them during our stay at Fort Novosel.

Healing Hands has been so good to my animals. The veterinarians, vet techs, and rest of the staff are wonderful. We have used them for yearly checkups, vaccinations, dental work, boarding, and grooming (when available). Very reasonable prices and super friendly service any time we've been there.

We had our first experience at HHAH and had a good one. My dog Bane is a little tough to get his nails trimmed and the staff was very friendly and made him more comfortable enough to get them done. Very happy with that. My girl Harley got her exam and nails done too, and we were in and out with all of my questions answered within the hour! Very impressed! Glad to have informative staff and helpful and friendly people around here. Glad to have them as our vet family!
