How to Save Money at Rehm Animal Clinic at Tillmans Corner

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Carney is exceptional, and Rehm has been able to handle everything needed for all of our pets. It is in the pricey side but they are well worth it, and we feel that they give excellent care.

We are new to Alabama and my boy, Reese, jumped off my bed and tweaked his leg, so I brought him in to get checked and get a vaccination. He was scared at first, but by the time we were leaving, he tried to follow the vet back to the back instead of coming with me! They are very friendly and knowledgeable and helped put my mind at ease. Reese isn't limping anymore, and we will be back in a few days for a follow-up and another shot since he needs to stagger his shots due to a slight allergy he has to one of them. I'm so happy that I found a good place to bring my boy.

Saw Dr. Carney today for a second opinion on treatment options for hip dysplasia. Previous vet did not present many options other than anti-inflammatories or surgery. Dr. Carney was very thorough to explain everything in detail, as well as provide upfront pricing with every single option she presented. I appreciate her so much for taking so much time to make sure that I had all the information available so that I could make the best decisions for treatment. I feel so much better now that we have a solid treatment plan in place. I know the next steps if the current plan isn't enough. Also, the vet tech that we had today was fantastic! She is very kind, but also seems very knowledgeable. You can't go wrong taking your pets to Dr. Carney!

We took our 5 month old puppy here yesterday. She broke her leg in half. The ladies up front could not have been sweeter, but this vet tech Annie called when they had our pup for most of the day and at the time we did not know what was wrong with her. This horrible lady called us and told us over the phone, when we asked what was wrong with her, that it was"wasn't sunshine and flowers, but the vet would have to tell us." Who freaking says that. Annie get a new job! You suck at yours! We get down there to talk to the vet and pick our pup up and I told Holly what she said and that we wanted answers NOW! I'm thinking horrible things could be wrong because of what that Annie lady said. Holly told us she broke her leg, but that was all she could say. We waited 45 more minutes for vet Carne (however you spell this chicks name) to grace us with her presence. Then she tells us about what she found and the recommendation. I expressed my displeasure with how Annie relayed information, and I kid you not, this vet carne said, "well next time we won't call you. We have been here 10 hours and fit you in" are you freaking kidding me! Could I have made an appointment for an emergency?! She never apologized and in fact tried pulling the alpha female stare down with me. NOT GOING TO WORK! Horrible place! We previously had taken all our dogs there for years, but will NEVER step foot in that place again! Vet carne you might want to just simply work on your customer service and understand that animals are peoples children to them. Try working on your attitude problem and don't try and make excuses when an apology is what was warranted. Horrible day made horribly worse by you and that vet tech Annie! Try kindness instead!

So professional! This is the text we got at 6:30 pm after I had already called at 3:30 and confirmed our appointment at their sister location in saraland and the appointment for our puppy’s broken leg was tomorrow. Your business is HORRIBLE! Sure seems like you care about animals! Hello James, this is REHM Animal Clinic. We tried calling earlier but could not reach you. Dr. Barry wanted us to reach out to you due to the circumstances that happened yesterday, we felt that it was everyone's best interest that we schedule Whiskeys consult with a partnered vet. That appointment has been scheduled for you tomorrow morning with Dr. Stevens at Theodore Vet Clinic. We are sending over Whiskeys radiograph and records from the visit yesterday. They would appreciate if you could get there between 8-9am, that way if surgery is needed, they can get it done that same day. We appreciate your understanding!
