How to Save Money at Huntsville Veterinary Specialists & Emergency
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Scott and the staff at this facility were incredible to us at such a difficult time. Our elderly pup was at the end of his journey. I was greeted with helpful smiling faces as we entered the facility. The room we were placed in felt and looked more like a sitting room and did not read cold or medicinal. The room was large with a couch, chair, fuzzy rug, and colorful art. I never felt rushed in making a decision. All options were provided. Dr. Scott is the kindest and most compassionate vet I've ever encountered! She provided a comfortable atmosphere for me and Mr. Gauge in our last moments together. Thank you for taking such good care of our sweet boy!

We brought Athena, our beloved 14 year old Shih Tzu, on December 9th when she got severely worst after we tried different treatments since December 2nd. Since she had stop eating and drinking they admitted her to treat her heart failure, complication in the lungs and also her massive spleen cancer. After trying everything we could and they could provide we came back for a visit today and saw Athena struggling with her breathing in what was clearly painful and our family decided to put her to sleep. We only have amazing things to say about how Dr. Audra Stallings and the whole staff (nurses, the sweet lady that brought her pawn impressions, the front desk, everyone, and I apologize but with the loss my memory of failing in remember your names) approached our loved Athena final moments with us, allowing us to take our time with her even after she was already in Gods hands. Ya’ll made all the difference today and we will be always grateful for everything you have done and the way you treated our family.

The folks here were kind to me, my husband, and our hedgehog. Hedgie had terminal cancer, and Dr. Graham gave us options. We tried pain medication, but were unable to get him to take enough food to sustain him. When it was clear within a few days time that pain management wouldn't be enough, they made room for us on a fully booked day, and gave our friend compassionate end of life care. They gave us time to sit with him before the treatment, allowed us to pay in the room to avoid the front desk, and the doctor brought us a little box with his paw prints and a few quills. They were very good to our hedgie, and helped make his passing as gentle as possible--for all of us. 🦔❤️

A couple of months ago we were working with our regular vet and this place for our injured cat. We paid to have an MRI done and while waiting on the results her condition seemed to weaken, we called and tried to explain over and over how we think we need to bring her, but nobody on the phone seemed to grasp the severity and told us to continue waiting on the test results. After another day of doing our best and watching our baby suffer, we called our regular vet and described the same symptoms. They treated the situation very differently and insisted we bring her in immediately. We ended up having to put her down a few hours later because her condition had weakened so much. We can’t help but feel regretful for using and trusting this emergency vet. Our cat was young and otherwise healthy and died waiting on this place to help her. Afterward, we specifically said we did not want to hear back from this vet, but a few days later we got a card in the mail (which was seemingly nice) but all the messages only described how “spicy” and “sassy” Sylvia was. This could not be further from the truth and it was so upsetting to read these descriptions from people who didn’t know her or help her. She was the least “spicy” cat I have ever met in my life, but she was in pain and reacting to that pain, which you would think a veterinarian office would understand. This experience was gutting and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone or recommend this place to anyone.

Our cat is still receiving critical care as I post this and has not been discharged but I needed to rave about this vet regardless. I will not lie - the prices are steep. However, much like other reviews are saying you are receiving top notch care. We were there for 7 hours yet we spoke with a nurse or doctor every hour. There’s snacks and drinks in the lobby. They immediately set up your expectations for this visit. Prices are discussed up front and while payment is up front if you are financially strained they do their best to create a plan to best fit you. They gave us several quotes and were not bothered or annoyed while we made our decision financially. They are patient and kind. Several emergency situations came in while we were there and they still kept calm and efficiently dealt with every patient. Regardless of outcome and we do lose him - I feel so comforted right now knowing he’s with people showing him as much love as I do. Seriously great people working there and extensive thorough treatments.
