How to Save Money at Elberta Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place gets all my 5-star rating! I'm shocked they didn't run and hide when I came in with my cat to be fixed and to comfort him on the drive decided to put him up front and aim his cage at me so he could see me...or better yet SPRAY me twice! 😂 The were so sweet, he came back the same but a clean, sprayer free big baby I love. Thank you all!

She is so good with my dog I would never take him anywhere else! She is reasonably priced and gets him right in if we have an emergency! He took to her faster than anyone else and built trust with him and us. She wasn’t scared of him like all the rest because he is 130lb Rotty but so sweet! Would definitely recommend her to anyone with an animal needing a vet!

I've been taking my dog here since 6weeks old . Amy is a great Vet and her prices are reasonable unlike some places especially in the city. She great with the animals & shows genuine concern for all. I recommend her to everyone

Dr. Amy has been our vet and friend for years. We have and had ALOT of animals, especially cats, and she has always taken excellent care of every one. I can't say enough good things about her and Kevin and their staff. Wonderful group of people. I wouldn't go any where else.

13 year old senior dog with heart murmer and severe anxiety left waiting for an hour for a 15 minute ear infection recheck before I walked out.. Horrible experience! I'll never go here again! I have a senior dog that is terrified of the vet and has a heart murmer. His anxiety gets so high in the waiting room and his heart beats so fast its scary.. we just moved here, this place is the closest vet.. Rusty had an ear infection but they said they were closed for the whole week so I set an apt for the following momday at 8am to get him in and out as quickly as possible to minimize his stress. His ear infection went from bad to worse so I took him somewhere else and kept the apt for a follow up and to renew his heart worm and flea meds... so a 15 minute apt at best.. We got there at 10 till... I was left standing at the window while they talked and shuffled papers and ignored us for 10 minutes. Finally I interrupted and asked if we should be checked in.. the girl said.. oh yeah.. sorry we're busy .. me and one other couple that was already checked in were the only.ones in the waiting room.. she completed check in and told us to wait. After 30 minutes and 3 other people walking in the door and being taken back I asked if he was up soon ... she replies.. yeah.. he's next.. another 15 minutes and another customer pass and were finally taken back... only to keep waiting. By now rusty is full on panting and wining and still shaking..a full hour has passed for what should have been a fast 15 minute recheck and my dog is violently shaking and these people continue to ignore us. I can't remember the last time I was.this mad. Finally I got up and told the lady in the window to cancel the apt that we've had enough and we won't be back. I've never walked out of an apt in my life but that was ridiculous. I will never go back there and I hope if you choose to, you don't allow them to treat you and your pet the way we were treated.
