How to Save Money at Trussville Main Street Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great staff, but we just took our 10 month in for some small nausea and walked out with a $475 bill. No warning or anything about how much the lab work might be. No suggestions of other solutions, but no they just did everything before asking. Yes, should we have spoken up, but when you don't know too much about owning a dog it would be nice to have guidance. We knew we might possibly want to get some blood work done just to be sure it wasn't serious which is fine, but $475 for everything??? This place seems like they don't care and just want money. We have taken him to other places and have not even remotely come close to paying that. Here are the things on our bill: - Comprehensive Examination - Chemistry Profile - Complete Blood Cell Count - Lipase Snap Test - Cerenia Tabs 60mg - Famotidine 10mg - Cerenia Injection Be careful taking your animal to this place.

My family and I have only been in Alabama for about a year. My first experience here was great. I just needed my 10 year old dog's regular exam and shots. Everyone was helpful and what you'd want when going to a new vet. More recently, we'd gotten a puppy in October 2020, and they've been absolutely amazing with her routine care. A week ago, she was hit by a car. I was terrified and, while this isn't an emergency vet, they still saw her right away. The front staff was incredibly patient with my 3 small children and even helped to entertain them. Dr. Torsch examined her immediately upon our arrival (I called prior to showing up) and eased my worry. She got very lucky and it wasn't near as bad as it could have been. He did refer me to the Emergency vet so she would have overnight care, but I've been back every day so he could change the bandage on the most severe wound she had. Everyone at this vet helped me, as well as my kids, feel better during such a traumatizing and scary moment. My pup is doing great and she will fully recover.. I'm so grateful for these wonderful people. ❤

My Boxer, Booger was shot several months ago they took care of him for several days with drips and antibiotics. I was devastated when this happened, they assured me Booker would be ok and he is. I board both my babies there when I am out of town. One is the boxer and my other one is a Boston named Sadie. I would never use anyone else.

I came to this office with a very sick cat and the ladies at the front desk could have cared less. They refused any help or guidance and acted like I was inconveniencing them when asking for help. They sent me away telling me I had to go to an emergency animal hospital when knowing all of those were closed. I have been taking my pets to this clinic for at least 15-20 years and I can say I will never be back after this last experience. I’m sad to see, what was once a great veterinarian clinic go down hill because of lazy, un empathetic workers who do know care for animals.

My puppy loves his vet, Dr. Scott Foster! He gets so excited about going there, although he has has 2 surgeries in his young life, he still loves to go to the vet! Dr. Foster and his staff are amazing. He always takes the time to explain to me what is going on. He is very knowledgeable and caring!
