How to Save Money at Cahaba Valley Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Meyer was great with my pets! My dog is anxious/sort of aggressive at the vet & she was really patient with him. She even let me help out with giving his vaccines, holding him, and giving him treats. Churu for the win! He was stressed but didn’t freak out completely which is great in my book.

Today was my dog Fitz’s first time at CVAC. I had been taking him to another vet in the area and recently moved further down 280 so I decided to try somewhere new closer to home. If I had known how wonderful CVAC was I would have brought him there years ago! All the staff went above and beyond and showed him extra love and affection. Highly recommend!

We have had the divine privilege of bringing our pups to see the wonderful people at CVAC ever since we moved to Birmingham in 2017! From the first visit, we knew we had chosen well because we (the humans) weren't addressed when speaking to, but our pups were -AND- by name! Two days ago, we lost our sweet, sweet boy of 15 years 💔. The love and support that was shared with us during those last precious moments meant so much to us. There is no doubt that they loved our beloved Potter as much as we did! We want to thank them for their continued care and genuine love they provide when they are caring for our fur babies. We will recommend them over and over again! Dr. Wright, Megan, Holly, and many, many others are best in class! I wouldn't trust my animals with anyone else! Annie and Wilson will be coming to visit soon! Thank you, again, for loving our pets. They don't deserve us!

I would give Cahaba Valley Animal Clinic 100 stars if I could. My dear cat I had for 19 years, from July 2005 until July 2024 passed away naturally at home. The initial days right after her passing were a blur to me. I thought about burying her remains but I was way too emotionally distraught to dig a grave for my best friend. So I decided to go a different route. I did an online search and came across Cahaba Valley Animal Clinic and saw where they did cremation through Pet Angel. I called them and they said for me to drop by when I was ready. Upon arrival, they went ahead and got the box containing my pet's remains. A technician met with me and went over the cremation options. The atmosphere was very comforting, and I am very pleased with the cremation package I got. When I go back to pick up my pet's ashes, it will be like she is once again coming back home with me, where she belongs. I am so glad I chose cremation over burial. Cahaba Valley Animal Clinic is wonderful. Should I get a pet again at some point later on, they will be my clinic of choice

Everyone was very friendly and I felt like they really cared about Jazzi. She was very comfortable going to the clinic. She was feeling much better after going. They gave her some super yummy food for her upset stomach!
