How to Save Money at Auburn Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Amazing hospital. Dr. Barnes is the best vet I have ever been to. Every time ai call about my pets—she knows them by name and is always helpful in giving advice even over the phone without an appointment. She is thorough, caring, very wise, and skilled. I enjoy her staff care as well. I met her son briefly and he seems like he is following in her footsteps! :) so sad I am moving because I will probably never find anyone as good as her.

SMITH: Misdiagnosed Mistreated Negligently performed surgeries on suffering 10 yr maltese after mos of symptoms pointing straight to heart disease. Wrote off as allergies, kept missing the mark! Prescribing: Apoquel, Neurontin, Zyrtec, steroids over and over, for more than ten. months. Under these circumstances did TWO ELECTIVE surgeries intubation, general anesthesia - a VERY high risk for heart patient.just teeth clng and mole removal-WITH No pre-op testing or scan—NOTHING. I Begged for help as his health declined unexplainably. He cudnt sleep, walked the floor at nite, jumping up and jerking from all the harsh steroids and apoquel (seizures) when he just tried to sit or lie breathing , coughing worsened. Asked her cud trachea be collapsing? Guessing, she says yes u cud be right. Finally an xray. Smith sees not trachea- but grossly enlarged heart. Something that DID NOT HAPPEN OVERNITE! She Gives benazepril for blood pressr. Too late. Shudve done this ten mos ago when symptoms were first reported. Henri collapses suddenly on Father's Day. Forget Smith. Went to Tuskegee- all right tests done and severity of conditions FINALLY REVEALED. By now with NO TREATMENT FOR A YEAR HEART HAD PROGRESSED TO SO ENLARGED, valve tore, fluid build up So bad, lungs under too much pressure to breathe. Performed fluid drainages to no avail. Held Henri in my arms while put to sleep. Having PTSD watching my emotional support pet suffer and die had life altering consequences: sleep deprivation, panic/anx attacks, severe depression and loss of hundreds AND thousand dollars for reckless pet medical care and loss of life and quality of life in what she have him for a last year of life. I Requested refund for 10 months of misprescribed services, surgeries misappropriated thousands of dollars SHE PROFITED WHILE KILLING MY HENRI-but. Smith says Sorry, NO refund. All his NEEDLESS SUFFERING AT HER HAND- A first yr vet student wud know the risks Henri was put through.Just want this known bc all these ‘good time’ reviews and ‘sweet’ descrip on her website do Not depict whole truth about her inept ability to properly diagnose! “Nice” doesnt cut it! Need intelligence and common sense!! Office mgr never friendly or caring 4 years of hostile attitude front desk.

I give them a zero They told me when I brought y dog in suffering from kidney abcess. That after her surgery she would have 5 good years She suffered the entire year and only lived 11 months. I miss her so much and she suffered to much. I paided 8000 dollars for the surgery. Money didn't matter, I thought she was going to have 4 more years of a happy life. Don't TRUST AUBURN THEY ARE ONLY ABOUT MONEY

Wonderful place with wonderful people. Some vets are scared of cats and assume they are all hateful. Even after I told the tech about his last vet calling him “mouthy” for hissing because they never took him out of the carrier and just held him down and gave him a shot, she still let him roam the room. My cat even cuddled up against the doctor and the technician. I’ve never seen a better display of compassion and patience from a vet. Great place with great people who care.

Grateful to find a cat friendly vet. I took my two 1 year old Persian cats today and had an excellent experience. I'm very pleased with Dr. Nicole Barnes and will definitely return with my other 2 Persian cats in the fall.
