How to Save Money at Juneau Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog passed away while in the care of Juneau vet Hospital. Taking Dax here will forever be the greatest regret of my life. I feel that they didn’t even take the time to get to know my dog. I was never asked questions about what medication he was on. I was never asked if he had eaten before his visit. When I went in to drop him off, they weren’t even sure which leg it was- they had asked me just an hour before his surgery which leg needed an operation. They did not want to see/talk to me before his surgery. It was all so rushed. Could it have made a difference in the outcome of this “routine” surgery? Maybe not, but I’d like to think it could have. Even after Dax passed, the report that was sent to the cremation service was incorrect. He was written down as being “grey”. Dax does not have a single spot of grey on him. It caused even more confusion and distress after his passing. He was treated like a number. So, because you all did not take the time to get to know Dax- please allow me to tell you more about him. Dax was known as the sweetest gentle giant. He would stick his lips out to accept a treat because he wouldn’t want to touch you with his teeth. He would howl when he was excited. He was the best dance partner and the greatest car ride passenger. Dax was so good with kids and I wanted so badly for him to be here and meet our new baby. Dax impacted a lot of lives in his 5 short years here on earth. So many people are grieving his death. He was such a good friend. Dax wasn’t just a dog- he was our whole world. And for all those considering Juneau Vet Hospital as either your primary vet or just coming in for a single thing to be done- please trust your instincts. If it doesn’t feel comfortable to you, don’t let them take your family member.

I could not recommend them because I took my 11 year old cattle dog there for dental cleaning. I was concerned because they did not do blood work before, I don't believe they examined him at all first before giving him 3 shots of anesthesia, before that they had me take him out of their office and give him oral tranquilizers. I have no history of my dog's heart or health condition before and after this visit. We were just blessed by God to have gotten through this ok. Dr. Lee barely said anything to me.

Dr New and his staff are a really great team. My pup travels a bunch and has met many vets. She loved Dr. New! I enjoyed him sharing knowledge of (basic) issues that can extend a dogs quality of life and most thorough exam of my girl’s eyes. He addressed all my questions. Great vet! Prices were very reasonable too. Rarely have I left a vet feeling like “that was so worth what I spent”…. Glad to know there is a good vet we can go to in Juneau.

This is perhaps the most poorly run business I've encountered in Juneau. Go here only if you don't mind degenerate veterinary practices that would leave you wondering who they must have bribed to gain their accreditations. The doctor doesn't seem to know what the word "sterile" means, and will just glance over your pet during its initial check-up, missing the most obvious problems that I've seen no other vet miss. He clearly doesn't care about the patients any more than their ability to bring in another appointment fee. On top of that, the management treats their employees lowlier and with less respect than the sick animals they pretend to take care of. The only reason I see that this place is still in business is due to the extremely limited competition in Juneau. If a veterinarian clinic opened up here with half the integrity that I've seen down south, they would be shutting their doors in a week. It's truly a disgrace.

Been bringing my fur-babies here for everything and they have a great crew! Doctors are understanding and thorough, place is immaculate, and my pets are as happy as can be. Thank you for all you do!
