How to Save Money at PET Emergency Treatment
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I spent the night here (8pm-6am) with my 10 month old pup. Yes, the wait sucked and was long, but that’s to be expected with the only emergency clinic in the STATE. I could not be happier with the care my sweet boy received. Even in my sleep deprived and worried state, I could tell that Dr. Riddle and the techs working with him (forgive me, my tired brain can’t remember names) cared so much about my pup and were working their butts off to make sure he was as comfortable as possible while undergoing treatment. Doc and his techs made sure to stop by a lot while I was in the exam room to keep me posted on exactly what was happening with my kiddo, all the while tending to other patients and clients in a timely and respectable manner. The kindness and compassion expressed by the staff members of this clinic truly makes my heart happy. Thanks to them, my boy is on the mend and will soon be back to his bouncy, doing-parkour-off-your-face self.

This was the best vet experience I've had. The technicians were very kind, considerate, and gentle handling my dog who was in severe pain throughout his body. I felt the veterinarian genuinely cared for the well-being of my dog, was knowledgeable, and even brought in a second vet for additional thoughts for treatment. I did need to wait quite a while (which was completely understandable) as my dog wasn't in as critical condition compared to the other animals but in doing so I saw what these people go through daily and I have nothing but hard respect for that. It's a tough job. Being a pet ER, I recognize that only very sick and/or injured animals are seen but if I could, I'd absolutely make the vet I saw, my regular vet for my dog.

We were on vacation in Alaska and worried about our dog. Everyone at PET Urgent Care treated him very effectively, with compassion and kindness. Everything was explained carefully to us. The urgent care was clean and nicely decorated. The cost was very reasonable. Shoutout to Dr Johnson and the tech who were excellent!

This place is extremely busy every single day, they take on so much for the anchorage/ wasilla area. Even with a heavy and busy workload the staff remained so kind, polite, and calm. I honestly don’t know how they do it, phones ringing constantly, lobby full of worried pet parents, and the staff handles everything with grace and compassion. Can’t say enough good things, especially thankful to Abigail up front, she came up to me multiple times to check in on me and give me as many updates as she could on Frankie. 10/10 and give her a raise ; )

Excellent service and the dogs were calm because the environment is calm. The people are supportive and seem to love their job. I was made part of the treatment plan and knew the cost before treatment! Fabulous
