How to Save Money at Chester Valley Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had one of the best experiences with this office today. My dog became sick over the weekend. I called first thing this morning when they opened and they were able to fit me in. I did not feel like I was an inconvenience. The lady I spoke with was super nice. I believe her name was Erin. Once we showed up for our visit we waited not even 5 min in the waiting area. Katie was our vet tech today. She was super sweet, she explained everything before hand. I had concerns about cost. She told me the prices before anything was done. The Dr was awesome she listened to all my concerns and worked with me on a treatment plan for my dog. Before checking out Katie went above and beyond explaining all the prices of all the medications. Thank you for making today such a breeze for me!

They really cared about my new rescued cat Peter, who came to me with many problems. He’s now on the road to recovery. They care about all my animals.

The first time I took my dog here, it was a wonderful pleasant experience. Unfortunately I cannot say the same this time around! I called due to my dog eating something a week ago, they notified me that they were closed for the day so I took her to PET ER. Pet ER had me waiting in the car for 11 hours with my dog until she was finally seen. Mind you I am almost 9 months pregnant so you can imagine how uncomfortable and hungry I was sitting there. My dog was finally seen and everything seemed fine with her. This was a little over a week ago and she STILL has diarrhea. I called Chester valley and they just kept saying I was on the waiting list, which I was fine with, spoke to Dana who was very polite and patient with me. I just called them (Britney picked up) to get an update and maybe some advice because every other vet is booked or not taking walk ins and was explaining the situation when I was RUDELY interrupted MID-SENTENCE, given attitude and then HUNG UP ON when I tried to finish my sentence. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. I called back to try to speak to a manager and she even claimed that I was “verbally abusive to her” NEVER once did I raise my voice or talk down to her. I even initially apologized for calling so much during the week and TRIED to explain I was just worried about my dog. Never have I been treated so rudely before. Updating my review: about a day or two later we were called that they had a spot for us, we went in to make sure our girl was okay and the staff that did take care of us were very kind and patient with us and they took good care of our girl, quickly. So I am updating my rating for that reason ☺️

I’ve been bringing my dog here since I got him earlier this year. I have no complaints about the well puppy services. Today I brought my dog in because he’s been sick for the last several days. They took such great care of us! The vet spent lots of time with us to discuss treatment options and benefits of potentially doing diagnostic testing but was not pushing one way or the other and being very mindful of the costs associated. They doted on my dog and I felt confident with the treatment plan. I felt I paid a fair price for the services. Yes I did have to wait a while for the walk in services but they have communicated with us reasons for the wait (bad staffing across the country) and are actively trying to improve the process. I was able to wait for most of the time in the comfort of my home and then they contacted me about an hour before they were able to see us. I’m so thankful that I was able to use the walk in service rather than the expense of a local pet ER. And by doing the walk in visits I was able to be seen next day and not wait several days or weeks. Thanks for all your hard work!
