How to Save Money at Sherwood Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google

I will never forget the compassion and professionalism from the vet and his team. He had a perfect balance of compassion and clarity and helped my dog in his final stages of life. I’ll be forever grateful that he accepted my dog last minute even though we weren’t his patients. Anyone that lives in rural, northern Alberta that is having a hard time getting into a vet- this vet clinic is worth the travel and to anyone local, you’re lucky to have him.

Took my high anxiety indoor cat for a wellness exam & vaccines. I have just moved to Sherwood Park & they are close to home & looked like they had good reviews… The room was dirty, there was no cat diffusers that calm the room down for cats, i had to spray my own, no where for my cat to stay away from my dirty wet boots. When I called to make the appointment, i had been assured they had specific cat calming rooms, this was definitely not the case. Had to wait 20 minutes past my appointment time for dr bishay to come in, was not told he was running behind. When dr bishay came in, he just stood in the corner staring at my cat with his arms crossed, he did not say anything or instruct me or even try to say hi & acknowledge my frightened cat. I had to take the initiative to place my cat on the exam table. I asked for a stomach wellness exam to happen, the vet did not even touch my cats stomach in the whole visit. Instead told me my cat has tartar & that they have a sale on teeth cleaning in Feb&March. We are aware from other previous vets that my cat is considered overweight & needs teeth extractions and not once did this vet mention any of that. Did not even ask anything about food or eating habits. He proceeded quickly with the vaccines, & left the room mentioning something of a dewormer; when we had never asked or approved that we had wanted that for our cat. (Charged $41 for it also). When opening the packaging for the dewormer it was very loud & crinkly & scaring my cat more & the vet commented that he could see my cat was being visably scared by it, he continued to hold it next to my cats head to open the package. He then rubbed dewormer on my cats neck & said not to touch my cat there (did not mention for how long to avoid). Wished me a merry Christmas & the visit was over. If you have a high-anxiety cat, Dr Bishay is NOT the vet for you, he clearly is not friendly towards cats & showed zero compassion. There was no discharge notes given to me either for this visit, no instructions on what could happen from his vaccines or the dewormer. I have been to many vets for my pets throughout the years & have never not been given any discharge take-home notes. They also gave him a 1yr vaccine instead of the 3yr one that he has had his entire life, I was not informed of this until after the fact. I will not be recommending this vet clinic to anyone I know with cats. This was such a traumatic experience for myself and my poor little guy.

Our Yorkie Lacie was having some dental issues last weekend and her stress got to the point that we decided we could not wait to get her looked at. Our primary Vet Clinic was not open but Sherwood Vet was. They accepted her as a walk in late in the afternoon Sunday and were able to remove the offending tooth. The entire staff went above and beyond and the price was very reasonable.

The staff at Sherwood Vet Clinic are amazing, kind, gentle, and friendly. Always accommodating and has emergency appointments if needed, also love that they have evening hours. Dr. Matta is our go-to vet for our miniature pinscher, Hugo, he is so gentle and caring with him; we have been bringing Hugo to see Dr. Matta since he was 10 weeks old, and every time we bring him to see Dr. Matta he is just in awe of him. We've also had to bring two beloved members to cross the rainbow bridge and the care and compassion provided prior, during, and post circumstance are by far the best.

Dr. Bishay and all of the staff at the Sherwood Vet Clinic are consummate professionals with care and compassion on top. Within one hour of my first call, they got my cat into surgery to save her life, followed by sound advice and after-care; I cannot thank them enough for what they have done and highly recommend them.
