How to Save Money at Heritage Hills Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Worst euthanasia experience ever, and I've put several pets down. Every beloved furry friend I've had to put down received his injections through a iv in his arm. This vet put the first injection in his back. It didn't work and my poor kitty was still alert so they injected him with a different medication, so they could administer the final injection, warning me he could vomit, but hopefully not. Well the last minutes of my 16 year olds life was horrible and traumatizing for me, and horrific for him. He was not only doped up from the injection, but was vomiting and gagging on his vomit while he was barely conscious, and I was left in the room alone to watch and try and hold his head and body up. All my past pets went peacefully, during the process. This was a devastating experience both for my poor old kitty and for myself. He suffered more than what he should have in the last few minutes of his life. Why would a Dr of any worth, choose this method if he knows it doesn't always work, knowing that he may have to inject our beloved pets, with something that will make them suffer more in their last few minutes of their lives? Badly done, Doctor, Badly done! I highly recommend you take your beloved pet elsewhere.

I’ve had my dog Rambo for 2 years to heritage hill vetenary clinic. The staff was friendly and really took the time to make sure my dog felt comfortable, which meant a lot since he gets anxious. Dr. Rupi explained everything clearly and didn’t rush the appointment, which I really appreciated. The follow-up call the next day was a nice touch, showing they truly care about their patients. If you’re looking for a vet who treats your pet like family, this is the place to go!

What an incredible clinic. We have many animals and have been to a number of vets, and this is my favourite. The doctor is so thorough and gentle. The assisting staff are also so wonderful, and helpful and knowledgeable. They go above and beyond for your pets. I couldn’t be more please. If I could give them 10 out of 5 stars I would, because they surpass any expectations. I can not thank this clinic and the staff enough. If you need a vet, this is the one for you!

I can't thank Heritage Hills Veterinary Clinic enough for their kindness and helpfulness. When my dog was in pain and needed X-rays ASAP, they went above and beyond to accommodate us, even though they were busy. They handled the situation with utmost care and professionalism. They gently broke the news to me that my dog had arthritis, providing all the necessary information and support. I truly appreciate their compassion and dedication to providing excellent care for our furry friends. - Rivers Mom.

There should be an option for no stars. This is the most unprofessional, backwoods, rudest vet clinic that I have ever entered. The receptionist has no right sitting behind that desk. She is rude and won't let anyone get a word in even tho she asked the damn questions. She berates clients and makes them feel bad for asking a simple question. We had a cat that had to go in for surgery after being seen by an emergency vet. The emergency vet gave us a weeks worth of pain killers. My husband asked the receptionist, since we already had the same drug they were going to prescribe her, if what the emergency vet dr gave us was enough. The receptionist then told my husband in a very demeaning way" your cat just had surgery on her spine so she will be in alot of pain". THAT IS NOT THE QUESTION THAT WAS ASKED. There was then a huge run around to get the answers to my husband's questions, when the receptionist should have just followed up with the nurse or Dr, especially considering the nurse was supposed to check in with my husband when he found out from me what the names of the medication were, but neglected to do so. Don't ever go here if you actually care about your animals. Not only was my cat in great distress, but my husband was completely condescended to by a receptionist that has no right or qualifications to be playing Dr. to people paying alot of money to make sure their furry loved ones have the best care. To the owner of this practice. Get a new receptionist. They are the face of your business and are the first and last thing your clients will remember and this one leaves nothing but a bad impression. To the receptionist, humble yourself and find a job where you don't have to feel the need to be a total you know what to people who are just trying to help their beloved pets.
