How to Save Money at Rutherford Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Infinite stars. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for Dr Naguib and all of the staff at this clinic. They are always willing and able to accommodate my crazy shift work schedule and they take incredible care of my cats, even at last moments notice. Thank you so much everyone.

Probably the best-run vet I’ve seen, with excellent front staff and responsive vet techs. Since the procedures they do tend to be newer technology it’s not really the cheapest option, but I don’t believe they try to gouge you, either. I’m happy to bring my cat here. For peace of mind I wish the hours were longer (my old vet used to be 9am-9pm) but I understand this is quite rare in Edmonton.

I have taken my pets to this clinic for a number of years. Last year, we adopted a rescue from an incredibly bad situation. The dog was underweight, beaten, didn’t know how to go up a set of stairs, play with a a toy, or even eat a dog treat. The dog had a rake of health concerns that in my opinion were just being masks with another prescription. After an entire year of taking him to this clinic (he was then on 8 different medications) I suggested that I wanted a second opinion. I explained that if the dog was continuously going to have explosive diarrhea and vomiting, this was no life for him and I would sadly put him down. I was crying and visibly upset as I had spent thousands of dollars on the dog with visiting this clinic trying to resolve all the issues he was still experiencing. I took him to another clinic where the vet took him off of all the medication he was on (3 of which contained steroids). They did a swab of his ears and due to the fact that the ear drops and the allergy medication he was on both contained a steroid, his ears looked great. However, my poor dog had been suffering from ear infections in both ears for who knows how long! The new vet prescribed an antibiotic for 10 days and all is going well. We had him on a raw diet as suggested by this clinic. The new vet is trying to isolate his allergies and suggested a hydrolyzed diet for him. All his symptoms I had been bringing him in for like constantly licking his paws have all cleared up. I am so thankful to have gotten a second opinion of my baby because I was so incredibly frustrated from trying to figure out how to make him comfortable and make up for the first year of his life being locked in a kennel 24/7, starved and beaten. Although the vet is very kind, I would not feel comfortable to bring my pets to this clinic. I felt horrible the last time I visited the clinic and was not treated very well at all. The technician actually said to me, there are a lot of people that would adopt this dog if you are just putting it down. This comment shook me and I said I want my dog! I just want him to get better! This is no life for him being sick all the time. When I went to pay, I was crying. I said to the girl at the front, great dropping another $200.00 and my dog is still f%#king sick. I left the clinic took the new medication home. When I got home and looked at the new medication it said the pills needed to be cut into 3/4 of the pill and the other pills were super tiny and needed to be cut in half. I was already super emotional about the comment and the fact that my dog had been vomiting and had diarrhea for days. So I called the clinic and I said I have no idea how to cut these pills into 3/4 as it only breaks in half and the small pill we can’t break so I am bringing the prescriptions back so they can be portioned properly. I drove back to the clinic and the vets wife who is the office manager tells me that I am no longer welcome at the clinic because I was yelling at the staff. I said that was a lie, I was crying from a comment made and I was crying when I was paying so not sure how I was yelling. When I arrived at the clinic, I handed the two bottles of pills to the two girls at the front. I said to them, I will wait out in my vehicle as I understand that you are frightened of me because I was apparently yelling at you when I was here with my dog. The one girl went into the back with the pills and I left and waited in my truck. The girl came out with my receipt and cash in the amount I had just paid for my dogs second visit in four days (just shy of $200). I said to her I am sorry about all of this and they didn’t need to refund me for the visit. She smiled at me and said just take it. When I got home, I looked at the contents in the bag and on the receipt I was billed for an injection that my dog never even received. I am not sure if the technician was supposed to administer this shot when she came into the room and dropped on me that someone else would take my dog, but he never got it. Glad I got a refund.

My kitten Lucifer was diagnosed with FIP a truly horrible disease. The staff here excellently cared for and made him feel comfortable. Not to mention they supported us during this hard time. They always handled him with care and you can tell they really have a love for animals. An honourable mention is also the affordability of this clinic.

I'm so grateful to Dr. Hany Naguib and his staff for always providing the best care to my dog Marley. They are always accommodating with sudden issues that come up and Marley adores all the staff from the front desk to the vet techs. I moved out to Spruce Grove and still continue to drive to Rutherford for the peace of mind of knowing my sweet girl is being taken care of by people I trust. Thank you Dr. Hany Naguib and staff!
