How to Save Money at Cochrane Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

CARING STAFF We’ve had such a positive experience with this clinic for all of our cats’ healthcare needs, from routine check-ups and vaccinations to surgeries. The staff here are incredibly attentive and kind, genuinely committed to the well-being of our pets. GREAT SUPPORT Serena, Berlynne, and the entire reception staff, have consistently been helpful and courteous during our visits. Their kindness and professionalism make each visit smooth and reassuring. A special shout-out to Kat, the vet tech, whose assistance has been great in dealing with our feistier cat. We truly appreciate her support! EXCELLENT VETERINARY CARE Dr. Jason Dick and Dr. Kelsey Gray have been exceptional in taking care of our cats. They listen to our concerns and explain everything with clarity. Thanks to their expertise, our cats are thriving, and we couldn’t be more satisfied with the care they receive. AFFORDABLE PRICES The clinic also provides a good range of vet food at reasonable prices, which helps make regular visits more manageable. I have had a few different veterinarian office’s over my dogs life. Since moving to cochrane in 2019 I have used Cochrane Animal Clinic. Unfortunately my dogs have had some medical issues with infections and things relating to their old age. I’ve seen most of the vets at this clinic and have always been super happy with their service. The front desk staff are always so friendly and knowledgeable, I find it easy to get an appointment that works with my schedule. I do have to say that although I’ve seen a few different Vets. Dr. Chelsea Stone is our main veterinarian. Her approach with the animals is unmatched. She is so attentive, she really takes her time and makes sure my animals feel comfortable. I never feel rushed, she always makes sure that all our questions are answered, her articulation of all the medical jargon is amazing. I always leave feeling well informed of what’s going on with my pet. And on top of all of this, I do find their pricing to be very reasonable. If you need a new Veterinarian office. I highly recommend Cochrane Animal Clinic and Dr. Stone.

I can’t thank Cochrane Animal Clinic enough for their amazing care and service! My dog, Mallow, got scratched in the eye over the holidays, and our regular vet was closed. Cochrane Animal Clinic got us in the same day on a Saturday during the winter break. The staff was so kind, compassionate, and professional, and they took excellent care of Mallow. I’m so grateful for their prompt help and would highly recommend them to anyone needing a reliable and caring vet. Thank you so much!

We brought our border collie, Jake, here to get his boo boo treated. He chased after a deer in the woods during wild mushroom hunting and didn’t return for 20 mins. When he finally came back, he was walking slowly and he looked guilty. He was also a bit dirty so I got his towel and pat him down, only to hear him cry and wince in pain and then I saw blood. He had a giant tear on his chest. We were thinking that it might have been from a barbed wire wrapped around the perimeter of the house or from a fallen tree branch. I googled for first aid treatment and rinsed his wound with water and treated it with betadine. It was 8pm on a Sunday and there’s no open vet clinic so we brought him to Cochrane Animal Clinic first thing in the morning. Dr. Tegan Olesen was very pleasant and kind. She provided us options on how to treat Jake’s booboo and was genuinely kind for offering an affordable option that is still in Jake’s best interest. It’s rare to find a Vet clinic who doesn’t always go for the most expensive procedure. So then we opted not to get Jake’s boo boo stitched and they gave Jake a onesie and a complementary checkup.

Knowledgeable staff, good availability, work is done professionally. Only complaints are issues with communication with pet owners and questionable changes in planned work. When I brought my cat in for dental work it was originally expected by an independent vet office and this vet office to be 1-3 teeth needing removal and not much of an issue. Given the difficulty in diagnosing how much work was needed I selected on the form and confirmed verbally that if changes to the plan were needed then I wanted to be contacted. During the day of the dental work I was not contacted and arrived at the end of the day to discover extensive tooth removal had been done with 15 teeth being removed. My understanding was many of these were done as preventative care as they could pose issues in the future, but done on an elderly cat 15+ years old. The reason I was told I was not notified of the change in work was because they were behind and did not want to keep her under anesthesia longer than necessary. I would have given only 3 stars for the lack of communication (even when explicitly asked for), work being done that I don't believe was in the animals best interest, and the high final bill for all the extractions which was not communicated ahead of time. Giving 4 stars because I realize how difficult medical work is and want to hope the above was done out of concern for the animal and not a profit motivation. Would recommend here for minor issues but worth considering Calgary locations for major concerns.
