North Shore Animal League America
North Shore Animal League America, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, is celebrating 75 years of saving homeless animals in 2019. They’re currently completing the extension of their adoption center in Port Washington. This much needed extra space will help them find loving, new homes for more pets.
They find homes for about 18,000 animals a year from this center and the extra space will allow the cats they rescue to live in cage free rooms. This will give the cats more space and make it easier for prospective new owners to interact with them and choose their new furry friend. This should result in more rescued cats in need finding new forever homes.
North Shore Animal League America continue their work to rescue dogs and puppies from overcrowded shelters and terrible conditions locally, regionally, and across the country. They work in partnership with other rescue organizations to rescue, treat, rehabilitate and re-home the terribly neglected dogs and puppies, cats and kittens. One such example was a humane relocation rescue in early August when they rescued 42 neglected dogs and puppies from the Georgia Coalition. It was the fourth rescue from this partnership. You can read more about this incredible rescue story on their site here.
Our donations help make it possible for North Shore Animal League America to continue their vital work, so please tell your friends about what we do so we can help even more pets in need!
Humane Canada
With a Fall federal election coming, Humane have been campaigning hard to get four important Bills made into law before parliament dissolves. In June they reported the awesome news that Bill C-84 An Act to Amend the Criminal Code pertaining to Bestiality and Animal fighting, passed through Parliament and into law.
The good news continues as Bill S-203 the ‘Free Willy’ law was also passed banning the captivity of whales and dolphins. The Ending the Captivity of Whales and Dolphins Act was first introduced by Humane Canada and 3 senators in June 2015 and it’s faced opposition, but finally the Bill has passed into law.
There was more good news with the passing into law of Bill C-68 banning shark finning. This terrible practice of removing shark fins, often while the animal is still alive, just to make snacks had to be stopped and is an illegal practice in Canada.
June 2019 was a great month for animal welfare in Canada thanks to the tireless work of Humane Canada and their colleagues.
It’s thanks to your use of our site that makes it possible for us to help these fabulous organizations to continue their vital work, so THANK YOU for your support!
