How to Save Money at Wind River Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have used Wind River Veterinary Services for years. I have had regular veterinary care, emergency care, and finally the humane euthanasia of my old friends. I have never had anything but compassionate, professional service from this business. Dr. Boulette, Dr. Cook, and Dr. Hall all have assisted with my dogs from one time or another. All have been great. Thank you Wind River Veterinary for being there for my family !

We have been clients of Wind River Vet/Dr. Boulette for many years. He has been with us through 4 losses. He has always treated our pets with kindness and compassion. I would highly recommend Wind River Vet.

I left my little toy poodles (6 and 7 months of age) in the care of Wind River Veterinarian services for 10 days while I was away on business. I actually accidentally selected them as I thought they were another pet boarding place in Lander, WY and I am not familiar with the area. Someone recommmended the boarding place in Lander. Who would think there were two in such a small town? I travel frequently and have to board my babies and I have never experienced what I did at Wind River when I picked up my babies. Understand, I have been a pet owner for decades. They smelled terrible when I picked them up that morning so the first thing I did when I got them home was give them a bath. While I was bathing my babies, I noticed there was a clump of something on the back side of one. Understand, the baby that had the clump on the back of her rear end is happy go lucky and loves who ever she is with, not at all timid or shy. She was very withdrawn and unresponsive to me when I picked her up from Wind River. She didn’t even want to stand. The clump on her rear end was a hard ball of feces. I gently cleaned the area with warm water until I could safely and with as little pain as possible, remove the clump. What was under that clump is a picture I can not get out of my mind. I literally started crying. Her rectum was enlarged and bleeding. The entire areas just hung there slack. When the clump came off, hard fecal matter and a very slick substance ran out of her rectum. I was in shock. I immediately called my veterinarian, which wasn’t available but the assistanct referred me to two other vets. I went to two vet and both had no interest in listening to me. They both told me she may have become stressed out and got diarrhea which got stuck to her fur and sealed in the feces causing an infection. Really? In one day? Every time they touched my babies rear end, she screamed and cried. She screamed when they took her temperature and the vets tried to normalize this condition? Understand, Wind River staff told me she was playful and done fine the entire time she was in their care. Now, the morning I pick her up she is in this disgusting state? And to add insult to injury, one of the veterinarians contacted me to chastise me instead of find out what happened to my baby under their care, Really! I paid over two-hundred dolllars for that kind of treatment? He behaved as if I was one of his staff he was correcting for poor performance or that he was more interested in covering his staff than finding out what happened to my baby under their care. My little girl is doing better but still has blood coming from her rectum when she goes potty. If I could give them 0 stars I would.

If I could give zero stars I would. I called earlier today to see how euthanizing a dog works I was told to call about thirty minutes before I come in. Than I go to call and whoever answered the phone Joann I think it was said I needed to make an appointment to euthanize a dog. She was very rude and gave me lots of attitude. They want me to make my dog suffer two days before we can put him down ?

Doc Boulette is very thorough and discusses treatment options with us beforehand. He has been our vet for years.
