How to Save Money at Mobile Veterinary Practice

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have never written a review for a business, especially local. My family and I have been taking our precious animals to them for years because of the quality of service and knowledge. However, my last visit with my ragdoll cat with his heavy coat was causing problems for him. I asked in a very particular way how I thought he could become more comfortable. The groomer disregarded everything I said and got upset with me when I asked why what I asked wasn’t done - she blamed it on me somehow. See pic for what the “groomer” did. I adore everyone there but this was a huge disappointment.

When I adopted Diamond she was fully matted and timid. I didn't know her age or immunization status. After a few weeks of care she became fluffy and social. I took care of her for 5 years until she was brought in for immunization. I had bigger concerns at this time. Diamond had ultimately stopped grooming herself, lost weight and mobility, and urinated more than usual. I assumed there was a problem with her thyroid and was seeking treatment. Both my SO and the vet were resigned to monitor the situation until an appointment that would be scheduled a year out with the next immunization. Diamond lost another 20% of her weight and I continued to groom her. Recently a tight knot of fur was removed from her midsection which unfortunately came with 2mm of her epidermis. This knot unwound to an abrasion the size of a quarter. Diamond appeared not to mind and there was virtually no blood. This wound was covered in serum and dried. A phone call was made and it was said that this wound needed stitches. I told my SO that I did not think this was necessary, but to ask for antibiotic cream and that the hormones be treated. The 4lb cat was given anesthesia and the mid section pulled together to be stapled. Diamond did not fully wake up before leaving the clinic. While at home, the cat gained some consciousness but was still not in her right mind. She fell into her water dish and when I tried to help her eat, she went too far and sunk her teeth into my palm. When I returned home on the next day she had lost more function. Rigor mortis had set in by the following morning.

Dr. Dan is the best vet within a 50-mile radius, my family and extended family have been using mobile veterinary practice for over twenty years. We trust him and his staff for the best care for our pets. Their prices are very reasonable, the thing that stood out to me the most is that doctor Dan loves animals. you can see it in the way he takes care of your pet while you're at your visit. This is the only vet I will ever use, thank you dr. Dan and your staff for outstanding service.

Dr Dan is a saint amongst men. he holds more compassion for your pet then you could possibly imagine. we traveled from Oregon and had a Christmas pet emergency. Dr Dan was able to squeeze us in even though he was well overbooked from the holiday closure. he is way too affordable considering the superb quality of care that he offers for your pet. I can't recommend him enough

If I could give this practice a review of zero I 100% would. The rome location is by far the worst vet clinic I have ever been to. I was planning on setting up appointments for my 4 cats after bringing my brothers cat in today but that will not be happening at any of these locations (wi rapids, rome, and anywhere else with this name). The staff’s excuse for keeping me waiting for 2 hours was that they forgot about me…. I am a new client or was and that was their excuse??? Over 6 people were working and every room was open but one and they use that excuse…. Sad practice very sad. I was going to school to be a vet and have shadowed in clinics before and these appointments took no more than 25 minutes if that and I sat there for 2 hours. So my overall rating to this entire practice is a zero out of ten and I hope this was very helpful. Glad that I had to pay for a 2 hour visit that wasn’t even worth it after being told it would be free by the veterinarian himself so great job guys you know how to make an amazing impression. WORK ON COMMUNICATION THATS WHAT HAPPENS IN A BUSINESS AND LEARN HOW TO PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CLIENTS!!! This post is strictly for the rome location but with this experience that I had I’m not willing to go to any other location because i fear I might be late for work again, miss my entire one and only day off for the next 2 weeks and wait for 2+ hours for a basic check up
