How to Save Money at Pacific Northwest Pet ER & Specialty Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I recently took my dog Tucker to Pacific Northwest Pet ER for an emergency visit after he got a stick lodged in his mouth and injured his eye. The staff was incredibly caring, knowledgeable, and supportive throughout the entire process. They were transparent about the treatment options and pricing, which was quite reasonable. I felt completely at ease with their care and expertise. I would definitely return if needed and highly recommend them to anyone in need of emergency services for their pets. Thank you for taking such good care of Tucker!

Okay first off… Yes, it’s expensive, yes you could wait awhile, but that’s emergency medicine. All that aside I am FOREVER grateful to this place. We drove 2 hours and They saved my sweet Bernese Mountain dog; Elmer. Elmer came in with symptoms similar to bloat but seemed a little bit more like anxiety symptoms, instead of brushing it aside they still took him for images and ran some blood work. Turns out he was not showing the textbook symptoms but was in fact bloating and his stomach was twisting on him which can be fatal if not treated promptly. Within an hour they called in a surgical team and got him prepped for surgery. Everyone kept me and my husband in the loop and was very transparent about the entire operation, costs, and his healing. I can’t remember the ER vets name but she even check at another facility to see if their prices were better (which they were) but time was of the essence and money was the last thing on my mind. I was everyone’s worst nightmare when it comes to being a patients psychotic family member but it did not stop them from showing kindness and compassion to us during this difficult situation. Shout out to Michelle at the front desk on night shift, she was so kind and helpful. Dr Holman was his surgeon and called immediately after surgery to give me an update and ran through EVERYTHING that happened and her opinion on things. Dr Thompson with her laid back, yet brilliant updates she called me about. I felt like I was talking to a good friend. And everyone in between THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart ❤️. My boy is on the mend and I couldn’t imagine life without him.

I would so recommend this pet hospital for anyone who wants top care for their pets. Everyone from receptionist to the veterinarian was very helpful and kind in a time of great worry and concern. Even though my out come for my little Yorkie wasn’t what I hoped for. They showed real empathy for the decision that had to be made for my companion for 13 years. Thanks for caring

Wonderful staff and doctors here. Highly recommend. We’ve come here three times with our Pippi. The staff is very transparent about wait times, treatment, and billing. They answer questions with patience and empathy and are really good about getting on the phone if you have questions about after care. It’s such a relief to have an amazing and reliable pet ER close by.

Seeking veterinary care for our sick dog here with a referral from our primary vet was met with the most caring and amazing staff we could have hoped for. Our emotions were high and the tests and answers went from bad to worse very quickly. After a nights stay and home for the weekend we had to make the gut wrenching decision to let our sweet boy go. The staff was once again amazing. We never felt judged or rushed during the process. We are forever grateful they were with us throughout the process. We never felt more loved while ugly crying.❤️
