How to Save Money at Latah Creek Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Henry and I appreciated your gentle care and kind reception during his first puppy visit with you. As always, Dr. Megan was knowledgeable and patient and the staff were attentive and professional.

My pups love coming to the vet - it’s hard to get them to leave sometimes! The staff is amazing and very knowledgeable. They even give out cute bandanas every visit. I recommend them to everyone! one minor thing is I wish they did payment plans

What I love about Latah Creek Animal Hospital is that they have you fill out a form asking questions about your pets stress level. They are very concerned about how your pet reacts to veterinary visits. I really appreciate this feature! I bring my kitten, Manny and my Chihuahua mix dog Daisy to this practice. I highly recommend this business to all pet owners in the Spokane area.

Wow!! In the many years I’ve had dogs I’ve never been as impressed with the care and education given to us with our pup Stanley! Stanley had every happy button pushed from the fear free approach the moment we walked in to that distracting cheese treat during inoculations. Kayla, vet assistant extraordinaire and trainer, shared valuable health & training tips, and the prepared notebook for helpful hints was greatly appreciated. Dr Meg loved on Stanley while checking him out in a non threatening manner. I was impressed with her clear analysis and obvious deep understanding of dogs. I appreciate the whole body wellness embraced by Dr Meg for our pets as well as for her staff! This clinic is definitely 5 star care! Looking forward to many years of Stanley’s vet visits.

My dog died 2 days ago after being discharged from this clinic on his way to the Animal Hospital. He was very stable a week ago, when we saw Vet. Tara to be examined for dental work. He is diabetic and she wanted to preform his surgery that day with out making sure his diabetes was controlled and while his mouth was severely infected. ALL other Vets have recommend his diabetes be controlled and he begin antibiotics for the surgery. Even when we had been consulted by Dr. Megan in January this was the recommendation. We started this process in January but they sent us home with a human sensor that did not work well on my 9 pound dog and charged me over 300 to monitor his blood glucose at home.Other vets charge 100-200 for a blood glucose curve in-house done by professionals as it should be done. Honestly Aliesa the lead vet tech is the only reason we have returned, she was always very Gentle and kind with my dog Buddy. I just wanted to get his teeth taken care of and get his diabetes under control. After they prescribed Carbuprofen and Clavamox for his infected and pain. Buddy had a bad reaction to the Carbuprofen and began to throw up and have diahrea I took him to kings where the confirmed he was having a bad reaction to the medications and gave him antinausea injection and a antibiotics injection and we were told to stop the medication. If Buddy did not eat bring him back, Buddy's appetite did not return and became severely dehydrated. He could not stand. I brought him to Latah they took him in the back and determined it was Ketosis and had me buy human grade Insulin. I returned with the Insulin and it took nearly an hour for them to admitted it. I was waiting with my dog in the back comforting him because he was very restless. Dr. Megan walked by him many times and ignored his suffering. She sat perched at her computer while it seemed the entire load of work was placed on the very inexperienced Dr. Tera. When the injection was finally administered they did not check his blood sugar after two injections. Which they told me needed to be done every hour and was why he was being referred to the Animal Hospital. I have no idea why Dr. Megan even practices Vet. Medicine had she been attendinging to her patient my dog Buddy might still be alive. When I called her out on her uncaring behavior and Teras poor judgment. She practically kicked us out without finishing his services I had to request from the other owner to have his blood sugar checked and the hydration packs before we left. The Animal Hospital said they never received any records from latah referring him for care. They refused to tell me how to administer the medication they had me buy and tried to refuse to give it to me. Their behavior was very cruel and neither one of them should continue. Money is clearly the only thing thong they care about. Too bad my dog had to die in their bad care. They got their 700 dollars from me but I will never get my dog back. Please don't bring your pets here. I am so sorry I brought my dog here.
