How to Save Money at Emerald City Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have never met a more rude, argumentative, unhelpful, and provocative veterinary clinic employee in my life. She was rude to every person not being provided service, and this tried to interrogate me about a lost/stray little dog. "How do do know it was abandoned? Did you see it happen? I need to know! How do you know it has a chip?" Me: I was told. It doesn't matter in the end. My stepdaughter was wrong. Who cares? Just grab the device for checking and get it over with. Why stand there in front of clients and try to debate when a solution could be reached. Thankfully, a client was there that posted on Facebook. The dog was reunited with her owner. The Good Samaritan lady should be working there. She was kind, unlike the staff at this facility. I would not trust Satan nor his demonic comrades, let alone violent serial felons in their care. I even looked her in the eyes and said, "You really are a difficult person." She just stood silent and stared. That apparently is the one way to shut her up. You should have seen her being rude to the woman before me! She feigned ignorance for barely searching for the poor woman. She had been waiting for hours to get her cherished pet seen. She must be a very lonely person. Get help elsewhere. These people are NOT going to care for your dog. Please do not take your pets here. Go where they have souls and don't act like empathy is foreign to them, like a curse word.

This clinic needs more experience with FIP positive cats. My cat was diagnosed with FIP by Dr. Fukuzato and I'm sad to think about all the other cat owners who went through the same experience with her but with a worse outcome Dr. Fukuzato told me that it was fatal, there was no cure, and my cat would only have weeks at most to live. She recommended humane euthanasia. Luckily I had done my own research and found out about FIP warriors and the unapproved treatment for FIP. I mentioned it to her, and she brushed it off and said it was an unapproved treatment (true) with an extremely slim chance of working (false). I asked if my cat could stay at the ER longer to make sure she was monitored and that her fever was under control while I got the meds from FIP warriors. Dr. Fukuzato implied there was no point in that, and said it wouldn't change her grim prognosis. I was so emotional and devastated at the time, her words haunt me to this day and was the catalyst for this review. She literally said that I could leave my cat there, but there wouldn't be any point and she'd live weeks at most. 10 months later, my cat is still here with me. The treatment worked and the virus is in remission! She has no clinical signs and she's as ravenous and playful as before. She turned 1 year old recently. I've seen her grow up from a tiny kitten to a young cat. All of the other vets I've since spoken to (including my primary vet) has expressed knowledge and approval of FIP warriors; if your cat has been diagnosed with FIP, DO NOT GO HERE. Another thing: when I tried to take my cat back for an unrelated issue, I called the front desk. I mentioned that my cat had FIP, and immediately their tone changed; the lady on the phone said that they didn't have isolation rooms so they can't take her in. I told her FIP is not contagious, and they obnoxiously told me that FIP stands for feline INFECTIOUS peritonitis (as if I didn't know what it stood for after all these months of treating my girl!) and argued with me that it is. It is NOT contagious, this clinic is grossly misinformed about FIP in both the disease and its treatment. BluePearl downtown happily took my cat in knowing she has FIP. The front desk here has been extremely rude every time I've called

tldr: would recommend for emergency care. cost was fair (all emergency vet visits are going to be steep). staff was great. I recently brought my cat here for emergency treatment. I was recommended this emergency vet from a friend who’s cat shared similar health problems to ours. I called on the way to the vet (about 20 min prior) and she was taken back immediately. The staff was kind and made sure I knew I understood the paper work I was filling out. I don’t know how long I waited before the Doctor came to give me an update, but he was very straight forward about her potential diagnosis, which I appreciated. After running a couple blood tests and an ultrasound, the news was grim. She was showing signs of being near the end that day, so the news was expected, but still not easy to hear. From here, I felt compassion and kindness from the every staff member I interacted with. They gave me some time with my sweet lady Kai before helping her pass. I felt heard and knowledgeable about every decision I had to make. My concerns were listened to and questions were answered in ways that did not make me feel like I was asking the wrong thing. I don’t remember the names of the staff that helped me (I was extremely distraught), but thank you for helping me and my sweet girl.

Staff is incredibly kind, patient, and thorough, despite having limited personnel. The first time I had to call they were the 4th 24hr clinic I contacted, and though they couldn't see us, they were the only ones that gave advice that may have saved my dogs life (he had eaten raisins and peroxide to induce vomiting was unknown to me). Tonight was my first actual visit; my dog was stung by a hornet and they took several calls from me in about a 15 minute span before telling me to bring him in, he was in their care for an hour or two and they quite possibly saved his life again.

Incredibly responsive care for my dog. Such kindness towards me as I navigated my worst nightmare. All their choices and recommendations centered my dog’s well being, were practical, solid, and kind, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to others.
