How to Save Money at Finn Hill Animal Hospital Kirkland WA

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Raja is the best! We found this vet through Google reviews and we're glad to have met Dr. Raja and his team. We've been bringing our dog since 2022, even though it's a little further from our home. We decided to move from the vet we went to near us because we found out they were overcharging us and adding services we don't need. Dr. Raja has the best bedside manners and explains everything well. The charges are reasonable too. The TV in the waiting room is informative and they have a good resource if you're researching for pet insurance. And most importantly, he shows he cares for our dog. You can tell he likes what he does and shows care and attention to his patients. This gives dog parents like us the assurance we went to the right doctor. Pictures: Here's my dog patiently waiting for test results.

I typically don't post negative reviews but feel others should be warned. I started off very happy with Finn Hill and Dr. Raja as he did more to address my dog's ear infection than the other vets we had been to over the course of several months to get resolved. During the process of treatment and follow up we requested for them to trim my dog's nails as they were getting a bit long. We took him straight home after the visit. We noticed that night that my dog was favoring and licking one of his paws. On further inspection, we discovered that his skin next to his dewclaw was cut. We tried calling the office several times to address the issue. We never got a callback and after several attempts to get to talk to the Dr. we were told to bring him in. When trying to explain to the Dr. that it happened in the office he denied any possibility AND tried to accuse me of cutting him with the clippers when I shaved his paw to clear the hair away from the wound. When I told him again that it happened before I shaved him he denied any wrong doing of any of the staff and insisted that it was caused by me or my own negligence. Then I was charged almost $100 for the visit and medication! If I were responsible, I would not have tried to blame anyone else! DON'T USE THIS VET CLINIC. THEY WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR MISTAKES. And to note; they do not take a holistic approach when every single visit they pushed medications and when I asked for natural remedies I was told to administer the medication instead.

I brought my cat in to Dr. Kim because she has been coughing, and the entire appointment did not go well. They were late to take us even though we had an appointment. Dr. Kim didn’t show any interest or friendliness towards our cat, he was very stoic while handling her. I didn’t get the impression he liked animals. The power went out during our appointment and Dr. Kim said this is a recurring issue. That was awkward just sitting in the dark before the power turned back on. He added all these diagnostic tests to do on our cat and showed us an $800 estimate without even asking if we wanted all of these diagnostic tests done. It’s our decision and it didn’t feel like it during the appointment. He suggested the most expensive and difficult to administer medicine first over easier, less expensive options without asking us what we would prefer. We had to inquire about the other options or we would have just been charged hundreds of dollars for a medicine our cat probably wouldn’t even take. They called us after we left and said they messed up the blood draw and that we needed to bring our cat back in to do another blood draw… really? How incredibly unprofessional. My fiance and I took time off of work for this vet visit and we can’t just take more time off on a whim that day because they messed up. So we had our 17 year old daughter come in to get the cat’s blood drawn a second time. After they drew her blood, they told my daughter that the cat needs to go to the ER for thousands of dollars worth of tests because there’s a chance of internal bleeding because of low platelet count. Then he asked my 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER what she wants to do about it. Then he asked her to call my fiance and I on her cell phone. Does the vet office not have a phone line??? Why are they using my daughter’s cell phone to call? We were informed of what happened and I immediately called my daughter and she was nearly in tears saying “I don’t want to lose my cat.” Dr. Kim insensitively uses fear to try to get you to overspend on diagnostic tests you don’t need. Our cat has a cough and it sounds like we need to change out her litter that has a lung irritant in it before taking more drastic measures (and we are giving her medicine to treat the cough). The whole experience was stressful, unprofessional, and felt like a sales pitch meant to get the most money out of us, not the best care for our pet. We will not be bringing our animals back to this vet. Read some of the more recent reviews… this place is not ethical in how they’re treating animals. It did not feel like they had our cat’s best interest in mind, but profits instead.

The kindness and efficiency of the staff here are unrivaled. We were recommended this place by friends who swore by them and they were SO right. After being met with failure and frustration trying to find a new vet after moving, this place took our kitty on an emergency and gave us the care and peace of mind we needed. Awesome place. Can't wait to bring our dog in, too!

We are so glad we found Dr. R. Our cat may be an old man now but, he has many good years left. We want to have a good relationship with someone who cares about him as much as we do. The team at Finn Hill is so good and supportive. We knew right away that Our LoverBoy was in good hands with Finn Hill Animal Hospital.
