How to Save Money at Veterinary Cancer Specialty Care @ Bridge Animal Referral Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Where compassion and service still exist. They were so kind and compassionate during our cancer battle with Blue. He will forever be missed. Thanks for your kindness and care BARC. ✌🏻

In April I noticed he was holding his left hind leg off the ground, we took him to the vet the beginning of May and he was diagnosed with a soft tissue injury initially. About three weeks later we learned he had cancer and our vet referred us to BARC. I felt immediately calmed and cared for when making Riley's first appointment with Dr. Tripp and Dr. Murray. The folks answering the phone are always so helpful and kind. Riley had surgery July 15th and has made a wonderful recovery! It was difficult not being able to go in with him to his appointments but during our zoom meetings with the doctors I felt so secure with our decision to move forward with his amputation. I loved how Dr. Tripp explained our options as far as chemotherapy for dogs and what Riley's quality of life would be like. I want to thank Dr. Murray for talking to me on the phone a couple times during those first few weeks of Riley's recovery. I'm thankful that in all that sadness and chaos we were able to have the opportunity to enroll Riley in Four-Paws research to help other people and animals in the future. I would highly recommend their services to anyone. To this day when Riley goes back for follow ups he gets excited to see the people who saved his life. We cannot thank you enough.

I brought one of our dogs here for a CT scan. It was easy to drop him off, professional staff, easy pick up. Quality report with the imaging. It’s expensive, but it’s a CT scan for a dog, so what do you expect? the surgeon who looked at the report later said the report was well done and had a lot of detail that was helpful to him, so I appreciated that. We were also able to get in here a lot faster for the scan than anywhere else in the Seattle metro area. Recommended and would use them again if needed.

If you are reading this review, you’ve probably just received some tough news about your companion animal. Unfortunately I can’t tell you that everything will be OK, but I can tell you that the BARC team is who you want in your corner for this fight. In the initial consultation Dr. Tripp reviewed how our dog’s cancer would be evaluated, and how that would direct other treatment. I was impressed at her ability to communicate clearly without skimping on the science. We left with a much better picture of the prognosis, a plan for what should done next, and a map of the paths after that. For us, the next step was surgery done by Dr. Murray. As a pet parent it is hard to know if a surgeon is going to do (or has done) a good job. But the pre-op and post-op protocols that Dr. Murray used showed me her care and attention to detail, which I’m sure she applied to the activities we couldn’t see as well. Thee doctors handling the continuing care have continued in the examples set by Dr. Tripp. They’ve provided clear but detailed information, happily answered our questions, and modified treatment plans based on our input. We’ve only visited BARC after COVID-19 precautions were in place. But they have done a great job figuring out how to make car-side consultations work, and have continually improved their systems and process.

I am very impressed with my experience at Barc and especially Dr. Ferguson. About a year and a half ago my babygirl Mia was diagnosed with Lymphoma. She was told by her local vet in Ferndale that she would have 1-2 months to live. We were able to get a quick appointment with Barc in Edmonds. They were very thorough with their diagnosis and chemotherapy plan they would start her on to try and fight the cancer and help extend her life comfortably. The staff here are exceptional. They always went out of their way to make sure my nervous babygirl was getting lots of love, gave her treats and took extra time out of their day to say hi and check-in with us. I would recommend this team to anyone who wants their fur baby in good hands. Out of my entire experience with them and the roller coasters we experienced with Mia’s diagnosis, blood work changing all the time, thymoma diagnosis, switching multiple protocols and much more made it feel much easier with the confidence and support the Barc team provided. Mia made it 1 year and 2 months from when she was first diagnosed and I feel so blessed to have that extra time with her. I couldn’t have done it without you all! Thank you for everything including the memory items you went out of your way to provide for our family 💖🐾
