How to Save Money at Clair Park Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Lea ( sp?) Went up and beyond her call of duty with our girl cat that was not feeling well, with her dertermination and check over, we kept feeding her water with a droplet and baby food by hand with a baby spoon, and nursed her back to full health. So, with her kind look over, even after the head Vet. had left for the day, sje told us our cat did in fact have a fever, and wasn't feeling well, we were just able to keep taking care of her & a close eye on her while getting as much reg. water in as we could until days later, she finally made it to her water bowl, all on her own again!! Then, after a couple days more was back to eating wet cat food on her own again too. Thanks & blessings to you! ✌️❤️🙏✌️😊🐱

I moved to Stuarts Draft a year ago, I started to bring my three cats to Dr. Magill 6 months ago. I haven’t had an issue making an appointment that is convenient with my schedule. Also, each appointment she explained everything she was doing and answered all of my questions. The staff was very friendly and I liked the way they handled my aggressive cat.

I had a wonderful experience at Clair Park Animal Hospital. My five year old long-hair cat suddenly became very sick. He was able to be seen immediately at the hospital, and everyone was helpful when I arrived. The veterinarian very accurately diagnosed his problem, treated him, and gave me follow-up instructions. He is now as healthy and energetic as he was before his illness. Thank goodness for compassionate vets!

They've been super rude to me every time I been there. The most recent time was about a "stray" cat I found in Draft. He needed some teeth pulled and I was just trying to help. They gave me a really hard time about not having any vaccination records. I told them that he wasn't my cat, but because he was previously fixed I must be a liar. I definitely don't recommend dealing with them if you don't like having someone treat you like a criminal. Who do they think gets a cat fixed and teeth extrations but not any vaccines?! That's dumb. Also, if your cat went missing for a week or so and came back with about 4 teeth, you totally owe me like $300.

Been going here with family pets my whole childhood so when I moved out and got my own pets I of course brought them here! Beginning of 2018 a new owner took over and replaced all the staff, we love the Vet but her staff is terrible. One woman had no idea what she was doing and constantly lost our files and undercharged us for services only to go back days later and charge our card more without contacting me first, and the other older woman who works reception is the rudest woman I have ever worked with in my life. Denying me my pets records, rolling her eyes at me and acting defensive and argumentative over anything that comes out of my mouth. The vet techs have no experience with animals, and breed discriminate. I have a gentle soul German Shepherd who is 4 years old and does get very energetic but has no history of biting or attacking. The new tech saw my dog and immediately ordered him to be muzzled for the appointment which increased his anxiety and made him act aggressive towards him. He is now terrified of that office and refuses to go back. They over price every service and even preventative care medication. I came in and told them I was going to order my meds via online service and needed a script and they basically interrogated me on the matter claiming their nexguard and heart guard prices were lowest in town and refused to write me a script. I came Back 3 times that day to get it and she kept claiming the doctor was busy when I could clearly see their books were empty and the doctor was eating lunch in the office/ I finally got the script and I now save $300 a month ordering online vs. paying their insane prices. They lost the business of myself and my 4 pets. Long story short, if you want to overpay to be treated rudely then this is the place for you.
