How to Save Money at Joy-Chi Veterinary Acupuncture

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They don’t really care about the well being of your dog here. And they never keep any medications in stock and my dog had to go a long period without her meds and she declined severely. They’re money hunger here. Dr Bross doesn’t know what she’s doing in my eyes. Update: this is in response to the vetinarian ..it’s weird that you Dr. Bross wrote a book in response to my review. I guess you had to write a lot and say things to try and intimidate me to remove my review but I won’t remove it.., I stand by my honest review. Also, for you to mention my past reviews and come up with some idea that I get paid is absurd. Some thing is wrong with this vet please don’t bring your pet here. Google reviews are open for people to write reviews on what they experience and that’s what I do write reviews and especially reviews on bad experiences so others won’t go through what I went through. I hope you change Dr. Bross and do better by people who seek you for help. If you can’t do anything to help, just be honest instead of trying to get money out of people. It’s just wrong. P.S for the telemedicine telephone appointment it was almost $300 when y’all knew y’all couldn’t help my dog, so yes I declined. I’m being honest and I left an honest review.

My sweet kitty Rice has stomatitis which is an autoimmune issue where the immune system over reacts to the normal bacteria in an animal's mouth & causes inflammation and pain. It also causes tooth & bone loss if not treated. My Western Medicine vet diagnosed the stomatitis and was able to remove her affected teeth to try to stop the inflammation. She was still having flare ups, and the only option my Vet could give me was oral steroids. My girl is 17 and there are risks from steroid use like kidney issues and development of diabetes. I definitely didn't want to go that route & neither did my Vet but they were stumped as to what to do next. After learning about Dr. Bross from a friend, I had a telehealth consultation with her to get some options on TCM treatment I could bring back to my Vet. Dr. B was awesome. She was friendly and engaging, asked me a lot of questions about my girls diet and history. She was very thorough and was able to give me several options I could bring back to my vet. I am very glad I was able to talk with her about my girl so I was able to work out the best treatment for her with my Vet.

Maggie is one of three beautiful babies that we have. She is a very sensitive Boxer that became stricken with back and leg issues due to playing hard with our other Boxer and Lab. Our vet said she had IVDD, yet a second vet said that IVDD was likely but cannot be confirmed without an MRI. My gut wasn't chiming with surgery for her, however the pain with that combined with her legs( ended up being diagnosed with torn ligaments) affected her appetite. She threw up all the time and stopped eating. No pain reliever worked effectively and we tried everything from NSAIDS to CBD to Cosequin and avoided steroids. One vet mentioned acupuncture and that started my research.I was finding out how effective it would be Dr Bross has given back Maggie's life. Acupuncture and the Chinese Herbs, that she recommended and provided, gave her a "quality of life", once again. With consistent visits, we saw results after the first one, literally. The commitment we made after the first successful visit, we were eager to see her improvement after the second and then every visit after that. Maggie now goes every month for maintenance, but I do not know if it is needed. It's more for my peace of mind. Maggie goes in and picks her spot to lay in, as I wait in the car(COVID). She falls asleep or just relaxes and then is relaxed enough to sleep the rest of the day. To see where she was and her inability to walk, hardly, to where she is now is incredible! Do your research. I saw videos of dogs on Youtube, before and after acupuncture treatment and I was excited from day one. I have recommended Dr Bross to our Vet in Williamsburg and other people who have issues with their dogs! I can't thank her enough.

I have used Dr Angela for several years through two Great Danes. I have sat at her feet and watched my Danes reach peak health. My first boy was 10 years old and the acupuncture and cold laser gave him a fine quality life. We also opted to begin home cooking and Chinese herbs and he improved further. My second Dane was younger but early on bloated which left her body quite strained. I learned about tui na, honed my home cooking strategies and used Chinese herbs. She blossomed. Dr Angela has been an integral part of my dogs veterinary experience. The most difficult is in home euthanasia. I so appreciate her tender nature and approach and had a personal closure with both my Danes. We spoke in advance to make certain all went well and I could not have asked for a better send off. Both Danes had smiles. I trust Dr Angela. I most appreciate the fact she is continually learning herself. And she is willing to share her knowledge. Dane number three is only a week away! Thank you so very much.

Dr. Bross is a gem! She has provided my senior dog, Sasha, with such amazing veterinary care, leaving me with much gratitude and appreciation for both eastern and western medical practices, as well as Dr. Bross’ education and experience to apply them as needed. We’ll continue visiting Dr. Bross for regular acupuncture tune-ups. I am new to acupuncture, but the improvements are visibly obvious when I look at Sasha’s hip alignment after an appointment. It’s also a positive indicator to me that Sasha runs directly to the gate at appointment time, and then, afterward, I need extra treats to entice her to leave so we can go back home. I have complete trust in Dr. Bross, as she has also guided us through some age-related issues and flare ups, allowing me to provide the best support for Sasha in her senior years. Dr. Bross is extremely personable and extremely caring. I know she has already added quality and years to my dog’s life. We’re lucky to have her.
