How to Save Money at Lee's Hill Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been going to the Lees Hill vet for many years and for several pets. I’m always able to get an appointment quickly. The staff and vet are friendly, professional and informative. They handle my pet with kindness showing their own love of animals. The vet does a comprehensive exam asking questions as she goes and making educational suggestions on how to care for my pet. Procedures are explained and not pressured to agree to every recommendation.

Our cat socks( she was 5 years old) died 10 minutes after we came home from this place. Sharon Kensek was the doctor and blamed us for her passing since we didn't want to spend extra money on a second xray. She failed to communicate the seriousness of the situation and still had no idea what happened when we went back to find out why our cart passed away.

If I could give this place more than 5 Stars I would. I mean what an absolutely phenomenal staff. I got referred here as I am a new pet owner. I just recently rehommed a blue nose pitbull and took him in for a check up. The receptionist was so polite and helpful. She made sure my paperwork was all correct. Victoria was so sweet and patient with my dog, and overall a great person who shared her knowledge with me! Danielle was amazing too making sure dog was good and getting all his paperwork done too. Now lets get to Dr.K what an outstanding doctor who cares about her patients. Like I said I am new to this and the amazing training tips and advice she gave me was amazing and worked so well. I absolutely love and feel comfortable taking my baby to this Vet. To who ever is reading this this place is a must go to !!!! 100000000/10

My dog has been coming to Lee Hill for probably 7-8 years. We had heard glowing reviews from people at a local rescue about this vet, and made the decision to schedule my dog, Max, an appointment for a yearly exam with them. Max is 11 1/2 years old and has had a fair amount of health issues in his life. Two years ago we found out that he had a tumor on his spleen that had ruptured, and he needed to have emergency surgery. His surgery was done with a specialist in Richmond, and thankfully went really well. The day after his surgery, we received a call from Lee hill asking how the surgery went, how max was doing, and if they could do anything. I was dumbfounded. They called, and they didn’t have to call, to check up on my dog. Since, he’s had a dental completed with Dr. Bonds oversight, who was extremely thorough when deciding if the dental was going to be safe due to having cancer previously. I really appreciated the thought and genuine care he showed. Dr. kensek has always been extremely knowledgeable and VERY fair with options given for care for your animals and pricing. She gives you the cheap options, as well as the more expensive options, so that you’re able to make an informed decision that works for you, your dog, and your wallet. She’s spent hours with me on the phone explaining my dogs blood panel results, titer testing results, answering questions I may have. She really does go the extra mile for her clients. The reason I decided to write a review was because of something that happened last night. Two days ago my dog ended up back in the ER because he was acting lethargic. 8 hours later and a million tests done, we found out his tumors have unfortunately come back. We found out the horrible news at VVC in Richmond where they offered us nothing for pain, nothing for an upset tummy that my dog was having, and nothing for good bowl movements. They offered nothing. I received a call yesterday from one of the technicians at LH (who have all been very kind over the years) to check up on max (again). I asked them if Dr. K would be willing/able to prescribe him an appetite stimulant in the future because he wasn’t wanting to eat. Dr. K called me after they closed that night to personally check in, and after finding out VVC prescribed him literally nothing, she stayed with her techs (who I know all wanted to go home after a long shift), an extra 35 minutes after they should've left to go home, to quickly put together a weekends worth of medications for me so that my dog would be comfortable until they opened back up on Monday. They left them by the door so I could run over and grab them late that night (and not even pay until they open back up Monday). She talked me through the medications, why he should be taking them, and informed me to also research holistic ways to help fight cancer. My dog woke up this morning after taking the medication late last night, like his old self. He ate his breakfast fully, he was walking around more, clearly had more energy and felt so much better. It’s all thanks to Dr. k going the extra mile last night for me. Not to mention, she gave me her personal cell phone number in case I needed help with the medications since it was such short notice and to make sure he was doing okay. All of this was so unnecessary for her to do, but so appreciated by both me and max, who feels so much better. This situation alone has made me a customer for life. Although I was previously very happy with their services and loyal, this situation solidified everything I know I want and need from a vet. They are caring, compassionate, and so knowledgeable. Thank you Lee hill and Dr. kenesek for everything. Any and all future pets of mine, will be clients here as well, and yours should too if you want someone who truly** cares about the animals.

I get worried when my dog doesn't meet me at the door when I come home. When he didn't off the the Vets we go. Everyone at Lee's Hill Hospital was absolutely fantastic. From the Veterinarian to the Vet Techs. All working together to help my dog. Took the time to explain to me what was going on and why the test that he was receiving. I just want to Thank everyone who helped. Junior is back to his normal self. Mark and Junior
