How to Save Money at Town & Country Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was traveling with my best pal, Elvis. His allergies were making him miserable. Took a big detour to go see these folks because they are 24/7 and we're able to get us in. Didn't have an appointment, just an ETA. We had to wait awhile because there were scheduled appointments for other clients. I got a little impatient, but then realized what an awesome place this is and how lucky I was to get in with very little notice. Thank you so much! Elvis is feeling great and I am so relieved. Dr. Bailey and the whole staff were great. I live about 800 miles from this place, so probably won't be scheduling any appointments any time soon, but if you have an emergency or live in the area, you should check them out. The facility is welcoming and super clean too. Thank you again! ❤️ Michelle and Elvis

My 4 year old Husky was bleeding from his gums/tooth. We took him in thinking (along with the vet) that he had cut his gum or had something stuck in it. We were all in shock to find out that he had ZERO platelets and was basically bleeding to death. Everyone was very concerned and informative about his condition. He was in ICU for a week. He had two blood transfusions and a platelet transfusion. These wonderful doctors saved his life!! As I told them, I don’t care about the money. I care about my dog. If he had a fighting chance- do whatever is necessary. Everyone was amazing! From the greetings when I entered, to the regular phone calls for follow ups. I was able to visit him every day for a week. They all loved him and he loved them. He knew they cared. They even hand fed him fresh chicken when he was too weak to eat! I can’t thank them enough. One of the vets reached out today to check on him because she hadn’t been there when I had taken him for his follow up bloodwork. Yes, I will return Yes, I would recommend them to anyone. The staff is compassionate, educated, and in the right line of work. Thank you all and God Bless!!

As a former employee at Town and Country, I was very disgusted by the management, the way clients and employees were treated, and the way the hospital manager favors certain clients and employees. I was very grateful to get an opportunity to work there and see what actually happens inside the walls of Town and Country. A lot of people do not know that Town and Country offers payment plans if not getting approved for Care Credit, why is it not known? Because they are very money hungry and if you don't go there very often, you either take your dying dog home to suffer, or we will euthanize. I will not blame the Veterinarians, I will not blame the vet techs, they all have to have approval from the manager. It was very sad and disappointing. I started working there in hopes that I could see amazing miracles, instead I got a slap in the face. I was fired due to having to go to the doctor because I was sick. I appreciate that they showed their true colors. My dog will no longer be a patient there. And I would like to apologize to every single client who had gotten very angry with me due to the way the clinic treated them and their fur baby. Town and Country is money hungry, I felt bad for chasing people just to get them to pay their bill. Thank you Town and Country you guys taught me an amazing lesson, I do not recommend that you take your pets here, if you have an emergency please please go to Virginia Tech or Roanoke.

Yesterday Aug 24th 2023 our dog was bit by a groundhog. We rushed her to Town &Country calling on our way to advise we were coming in as they are our regular vets as well. When we arrived we were taken back very quickly and Oreo was examined. Dr Graham came in and talked to us and told us what needed to be done. We left our girl for a minor procedure but were quite worried still. Dr. Graham called us before we even made it home to advise us of her blood work and to let us know she was starting the procedure. She called when finished to give us an update. She was very understanding of our fears and explained things quite well to us. I called before I went to bed last night to check on our girl and the staff was so very nice and put my mind at ease that my baby was doing well. When I picked up our girl this morning she was well cared for and happy. The staff went over all her medication and care instructions with me and even offered to help me get her in my car. We are so thankful for Town &Countryas they have been right on top of things with all of our animal and act fast in an urgent situation. Highly recommend them to anyone in the area. Thank you again Dr Graham and staff for all your great care of our sweet girl.

They treated us very well. After another vet office did surgery and messed the whole thing up, they helped us immensely. In the end our dog had to be put down but the Dr's and staff were wonderful to us in our time of need. Bravo for the way everything was handled
