We had a near-emergency situation with our elderly female cat Agatha. Upon learning that the office was short-handed we were concerned that the wait would be long and maybe we'd still end up having to seek out emergency help elsewhere. Neither turned out to be the case, as the staff not only got us in quickly, but welcomed us all and put Agatha at ease. With the help from them and Dr. Campbell, we learned what was going on and received expert recommendations and options for how to proceed. Our cat is not in great condition, but now we understand much better what we need to do, and I really appreciate their approach. Great service at a fair price!

Just moved to the area and the transition was unexpectedly hard on our GSP. Along with coughing, squinting, and excessive weight loss when he has never had food aversions in the past. He was also vomiting and had very runny stools. At first I was appreciative of the care I was being provided as it was an emergency appointment, GSP’s don’t just stop being GSP’s. I was confident when we left that everything was going to be okay, bloodwork came back fine, no heart-worm or anything that could cause these symptoms so we narrowed it down to stress and some onset pneumonia. Sent home with doxycycline and omeprazole to help his tummy and an antibiotic. Condition continued to get worse, he still barely ate and his stools weren’t getting much better. They suggested I bring him in again because it was hot last week and he had not drank any water in 24 hours. A second round of fluids were administered and another X-ray were done, clearly there is something still wrong. But nothing visible. Dr. Faye advise he may be suffering from blastomycosis. Which would make a lot of sense since he spends a lot of time digging at his ball in the woods, he had every symptom, okay. Do the test and send him home with an anti-fungal but continue to keep him on the other medications as well. So now he is on 3 medications and an appetite stimulant all 3 of those medications all can cause food aversions, vomiting, and GI upset. She also included a probiotic. After waking up to riven vomiting twice in the middle of the night I took him off the medications that were not for blasto. It had to be blasto. It was not blasto. Test came back negative. Dog is still coughing and very picky about food, stools are still abnormal. I wanted the vet to call me when I went in on Tuesday to pick up more appetite stimulant so we could discuss next steps. No call took place and then I was informed via email that Dr. Faye is out of office and will reach out to me on Tuesday. If a Malnourished dog who is exhibiting food aversions is not a serious medical issue I don’t know how close he would actually have to be to death to get another vet to look at his chart. When I asked if we could assign him to another case I was responded to with: “I spoke with Dr. Margaret and she said she is not super familiar with Riven's case but it could very well be due to the poor air quality and more of an allergic reaction.” Okay. So how do we fix it? I will wait for a call from Dr. Faye on Tuesday, but at this point I have no faith in the capabilities of Ashland Area Veterinary Hospital after $1000 in vet bills and still have no resolution. If I thought this was normal behavior why would I spend that much money trying to diagnose him and make him more uncomfortable than he already is? I don’t want him on drugs that make his stomach worse, I don’t want him sick, I want him recovering. Even if it is some weird allergy he just developed. Let’s find it and get it sorted out. That’s not a lot to ask, especially when I have 3 other pets at home that I now have no confidence in if 24 hour emergency care even means anything. I try to be patient, but 5 days to wait for a response from a veterinarian is too much when your fur baby is not feeling well And not having the staff up to date when someone leaves the office is just terrifying. Pending response so please do not allow this to discourage you from giving them a try, perhaps this diagnosis is difficult, my qualms are mostly due to the lack of urgency and poor communication.
