How to Save Money at VCA All Pet Animal Hospital/Taylorsville

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My boyfriend and I found a dog running in the street on our way home one day. It was really hot and he had no collar either. We kept him in our backyard, knocked on neighbors doors, and got no information back about whose dog it could be. Now my boyfriends 3 dogs all get their checkups here so we decided to bring him in to see if the dog had a chip and we found his owners immediately and got their dog back to them within less than 20 minutes. The staff were understanding and quick to get everything done that they could and helped us so much.

A few months ago I received some devastating and shocking news after bringing my 3 year old kitty to a vet for some blood work. He apparently had kidney disease and that was why he suddenly lost some weight. I was shell-shocked and getting clear information felt like pulling teeth. I was given a prescription for kidney diet cat food and told that once things advanced further we could start giving him subcutaneous fluids. Well, the cat would not eat ANY of the rx food, he would taste it once and never again. I felt like I was alone and left to figure this all out on my own. I began researching online and talking to other pet owners in the same boat. I began buying all sorts of food that had lower phosphorus levels and he still barely ate anything. I decided to start giving him fluids and powders and everything I could think of. I felt helplessly bound to this terrible fate of watching my little baby wither away into skin and bones before starving to death right before my eyes. Then, a friend of mine recommended Dr. Neville because she was once in a situation similar to mine and she said she only wished that she had found him sooner. I wasted no time in making an appointment for Mac. When I finally brought my cat in to meet Dr. Neville, I knew instantly that I made the right choice. He clearly has a deep understanding of the very nature of our pets. While the prescription food may be the ideal option for my kitty, that doesn't mean he is going to want to eat it. In fact, the odds of any cat eating that food are not very high. Instead, Dr. Neville supplied me with realistic options to start with and he had me stop all the other treatments I was throwing at the poor cat. The results were immediate and positive. Mac started eating once I presented something he liked. He didn't even need the appetite stimulant meds. Within two weeks he looks visibly healthier and has put some of that much needed weight back on. Now we are giving him some medication for his blood pressure and in a few weeks we will decide what the next step is. Dr. Neville treated my cat with his best interests and well being in mind, as if it were his own beloved pet and not mine. I don't know how this whole waking nightmare will play out, but I can honestly say that I no longer feel that I am facing this alone. I have a great partner in Dr Neville and his staff and that alone has been a tremendous relief to me. Thank you.

Very friendly and caring. They really care about our pets. I had to put my dog down last week after having him for 16 years. The Dr and staff were amazing ! They even sent me a sympathy card that they all signed. It brought me to tears. Thank you for all your kind words and the love you showed to my Rocky . Thank you !

Always love the quality of care I receive here. They've been nothing but helpful with both my new puppy and my ultra senior cats. Their approach makes me feel like they value my pets and want the best for their health. I feel like they are honest about treatment options and prices and don't push unnecessary procedures or medicines.

I told the staff that my cat had been peeing a lot l. I expressed that I had my litter box with me. I wanted to bring it in, but they said they would check if the vet wanted that. They never came back. To update on this. My cat peed twice in the room once on me and once on her blanket. They forgot we were waiting for the receptionist to tell me she had my bill I wanted to pay and leave. They started to clean, so I went out to ask if my bill was ready. The receptionist said "oh I thought you left" so she texted me. So yeah, I'm completely forgotten about. I can only imagine how pets are treated with such carelessness.
