How to Save Money at Orchard Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Everything was very specified and very quick . The lady that helped me take her in and pick her up was very sweet and let me know all about her surgery and how she was. The stitching was beautiful and so far the recovery has been great. For the price it was An amazing experience for my girl. The only downside was I was charged for a Carrier bedding fee and in the comments it said that it was because of plastic padding however there was none in there and I did the Carrier and betting to the specifications that they sent me and yet was still charged for something that was completely not the truth. Although it was a small up charge I feel like they may be do that to help with costs but I still feel like that was Inappropriate.

I was really impressed with Orchard! They made everything so easy! I got my kitten vaccinated and fixed. My kitten is healing great and you can barely even see the incisions. I have two kids under the age of 5 and the way they do drop off and pick up made it so so easy for me! When he was done they emailed me all the paperwork and post op info. You didn’t even have to go inside to pay. They send you an email with a link that you can pay through. So all I had to worry about was picking my kitten up! You do have to make sure and read their website and all the info they send you before your appointment. They have some requirements that I noticed some people complaining about… Really though what they ask of you is what you should be doing already to make your pet safe and less stressed! I think what they do for the amount they do it for is absolutely amazing!! Thank you Orchard Animal Clinic!!! You ladies are amazing!!!

Orchard is a fantastic resource! It took a little while to get an appointment but the humans that run this facility go above and beyond for excellent care of your animals. They have specific guidelines to follow and run like a well oiled machine. I took my community cat in for an injury and expected them to glance over, and give him a shot of antibiotics if needed…. What I received was a registered microchip ($10 extra), wound lancing and flushing, dematting, vaccines, antibiotics, well written care instructions, plus so much more. He was very obviously treated with respect and care even though he isn’t a house cat. Thank you to the workers who go above and beyond for the community cats of salt lake and for all of the care you out into what I’m sure is an exhausting and difficult job. 💜

I adopted a cat about 2.5 months ago that had gotten spayed here. Last week, she went into heat. I took her to my vet and once they got her into surgery, they found out her entire ovarian system was intact and had to remove it. I’m not sure what happened, but I called them on Wednesday evening and the voice message said they would respond within “72 hours.” It’s now been 72 business hours, not counting the weekend, and I left both my phone number and email and have not heard back. I would exercise caution taking your animals here to be spayed if you don’t want the stress and high financial burden of your cat going into heat when it shouldn’t.

Absolutely wonderful, very kind, and caring staff. Took my 7 month old kitten Fred in to get neutered. Unfortunately, they discovered he has a heart murmur. The staff was very kind and caring while we were speaking about what this means for him and what is next for him. Yes, the rules are quite strict but they are VERY clear about them and answered all the questions I had. You guys run a very tight ship here and it’s very obvious you care very much about your patients. The visit was also quite inexpensive ($125 for the neuter, rabies vaccine, FRVCP vaccine, take home pain meds, and the lifetime microchip). Thank you so much for giving my kitty a lovely experience here and for being so kind and caring to us while we handle such an unfortunate situation. Thank you for all you do! -Kim, Fred, and Jayden.
