How to Save Money at Intermountain Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’m trying to give a fair review. They’re all very nice, and they will treat your pet well. But when it comes to your pet having issues, I just feel like things aren’t explained that well. For example our pet had a bile acid test done, they treated him very well, but when it came time to get our results nothing was explained to us. We just got a very simple, “your pets score was this and now you have to get an ultrasound”. When I asked why and what that means I was just told that the score was “6 times higher than normal”. Still no explanation about what the score meant, what issues it could be indicative of, options for treatment etc. So we got the ultrasound and we were told that we would hear from the vet later about what was found. We did not hear back for a few days so I had to call the vet to find out (I believe the vet was on vacation, which is completely understandable). Again, no explanations, no details, no options. We were just told the results didn’t show anything and now we need a CT scan. It was frustrating for us to not have any options or explanations given to us. Overall I think the people here are super nice and will give your pet great care, and under normal circumstances I would 100% recommend. However if your pet is having issues and you want to have someone explain a little more about what is going on, what test results mean, etc, I would recommend going elsewhere.

If I could give zero stars I would. I called at 5:20, they close at 6 because my cat was having some sort of a seizure. She was losing her bowels, eyes going back and forth, panting like crazy and drooling. I was in a panic. I called this place and whoever answered the phone was Incredibly rude and told me the vet is about to leave for the day. I told her what was happening and she said “ well what do you want me to do about it?” Then proceeded to tell me the vet won’t take appointments this late. I’m sorry but if you say you close at 6 then I feel like you should stay until 6. I ended up going somewhere else where they were very empathetic and helpful. Unfortunately I had to put my cat down right then. It was very traumatic. I will not recommend this place to anyone. Do better and train your staff. If they can’t be empathetic when someone calls with a pet emergency they are clearly in the wrong field. I will add that i called the next day to talk to the vet or leave a message about this situation and whoever answered the phone was rude once again. She most likely didn’t pass my message along to the vet. And by reading a few of the others reviews it looks like they had a problem with rude staff as well.

We brought our new puppy in to see Dr. Carr and staff and were so pleased. When our puppy got her first shots Dr. Carr was so gentle our puppy didn't even notice she was being poked. Our second visit was just as great. The Vet techs and front desk staff are so kind and loving towards our pup.

Dr. Carr has been taking great care of our Indy girl since we first got her as a puppy. She’s always so excited to see him and we know he genuinely loves taking care of our dog. Dr. Carr spayed her last week and we’ve been so impressed with how well she’s recovered. He and his staff were very professional and patient with all of my questions before we brought her home. We love Dr. Carr and will return for all of Indy’s medical needs!

Amazing veterinary! I've been to a few and this one is by far the best. Thanks to Dr Carr and his team. When my doggy was sick, he helped him and when he passed the team was amazing to help out and even sent a condolences card after. So caring.
