How to Save Money at Crossroads Veterinary Clinic (CVC)

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Brought my little Pom in in acute distress for collapsing trachea. Surgery was done immediately the next day . Had no issue with that and the Vet Dr Mark was awesome. Provided frequent updates about his condition. My issue comes with the follow up care. This was a very specialized procedure as his was so extreme. He was allowed home the day after surgery so he wasn’t there over the weekend. Let’s just say things were not going well for him. That was not there fault Bear was always a problem child. But He got caught up in the drama of Dr Mark leaving without prior warning ( as told by receptionist) which left him without care as the didn’t have a vet yet and wouldn’t until Tuesday and this was on Friday. Bear needed specialized meds that they didn’t have access to until the new vet got in office on Tuesday and he would be out on Saturday. He also needed to be seen as he was not recovering well and his breathing was getting worse but again no vet coverage and because of his complicated medical condition no other vet close felt comfortable taking him on mid treatment. Long story short I lost my little baby . HE DIED!!!So yeah wouldn’t use them again if my life depended on it cause my little boys did and they failed drastically.

Wonderful care by the staff, the techs love what they do and the animals they care for. I've been taking my pets to Dr.Mark since he started practicing, fresh from vet school! And he has always given us excellent care to this day. However, the cost of the services have gotten very high but that is my only negative comment and in no way does it diminish my positive opinion of the wonderful care that is provided by the staff at Crossroads Vet.

Dr. Mark is absolutely phenomenal! I am from out of town and found a mama cat in respiratory distress with her 5 newborn babies and he performed her diaphragmatic hernia surgical repair. We are two days post op and she is doing wonderful and better than any of us could of expected and we are so grateful for his skilled and compassion work! You will not be disappointed with Dr. Mark taking care of any of your animals, their whole staff is amazing and really cares!!! So grateful we came to him for this stray mama and babies in need. Very reasonable prices too. 10/10 all around!! Thank y’all so so much!

I guess I’m in the minority here. My dog came in at 1:00 because she ruptured her annual gland. I had to call them at 4;30 for an update. Was told they would be looking at her now. By 5:30 still no call. I told my husband to head over there. The door was lock, they let him in and he told them he was here for our dog. They said there was no after care. She’s bleeding when she goes to the bathroom and can’t walk or go down the 3 step outside. No pain meds no anything. She looks so uncomfortable. Today is Friday so I had to reach out to a vet on line to get some help. $268 dollars and she’s in pain 😏
