How to Save Money at Huebner Oaks Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took my cat Popeye to get a bath and groomed since he’s 24 pounds and too strong for me to bathe him by myself at home! The groomer (I forgot her name) did an amazing job and Popeye is looking and feeling better than ever! Wonderful staff! Looking forward to going to them for other basic veterinary needs

i went to this vet with my cat who was peeing crystals and was really worried about him. the vet was dismissive when i told them that we saw crystals at all. they did perform lab work and told me my cat was fine but didn’t recommend that i put him on any prescription diet. if they did, i had an emergency with my cat a month later which could have been possibly avoided as my cat was not fine. he ended up with a urinary blockage from crystals which could have been fatal which cost $3000 to save him.

I took my baby girl Karma in to see Dr. Zbun at Huebner Oaks veterinary Hospital yesterday right before they closed because she broke a nail. It was split all the way down the middle. And the doctor took such good care of her. I was having a really rough day and all of the staff and the doctor went out of their way to make me feel better. dr. Zbun even wrapped up Karmas little foot and decorated her bandage depicting her costume Harley Quinn. These people are amazing. I absolutely love them and I think that if anybody wants a really good veterinarian hospital they should go see them. Their prices are reasonable and they take really good care of my pets. Thank you Huebner Oaks best veterinarian hospital I love you!!! And Karma and LOKI love you too!!! 🙏♥️💋💕🥰❤️😇

A simple wellness exam & blood draw/urine/fecal test for my cat ended up taking 2 hours 45 min from scheduled appointment time to time leaving the office. 45 minutes were spent in the lobby, and about an hour was spent me and my cat alone in an exam room, wondering if the staff even knew we were there. Not to mention the fact that they took my cat back for much longer than I expected, considering the small amount of testing they said would happen. I would have minded a lot less if I had been told what was going on or how long things would take. Though, frankly, I would rather have my appointment rescheduled than have my cat sit in the carrier for 3 hours while I'm wondering where everyone was. The staff seemed knowledgeable, but very frazzled. The rooms are not sound proof at all, I could easily hear people talking all around, which is very upsetting considering some people were going through the loss of their pet. Also, it's been a week and I haven't gotten the results from any of the tests. I tried calling and was put on hold and then hung up on.

Overpriced with suboptimal care and customer service. Front desk never answers the phones or call back and is horrible at communicating and tasking. I feel like my dog suffered when I switched over to this vet because refills for her pain medication were so hard to get.
