How to Save Money at CityVet | Kallison Ranch

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First time coming here and I have to say I will continue to come to this clinic for my other fur babies as well. I brought my fur baby Apollo for his ear infection and they helped me out so much knowing how aggressive he was being and how anxious he was. They didn’t turn me away like other places have and they were willing to work with me and also affordable prices. Dr.Gaines seemed very knowledgeable and the tech I believe her name was Tiffany they were both so awesome. And the ladies in the front were amazing and super nice. Customer service and the service I had today was the best. I will definitely recommend

Really enjoyed my visit here!! The people are very friendly and helpful, and I enjoyed interacting with the vet. He answered all our questions with positive explanations and good info for going forward. And my visit was on time with no extended waits either in the foyer or the exam room. I also felt the prices were reasonable. I have been moving my pets over to this vet for two reasons....one, they are MUCH closer to me, and two, the fees are a bit less than the big animal hospital which has been my vets of choice for about 9 years. But the prices have gone up out of my reach at my old vets.

Didn't really care for the way they handle appts. Everyone was very nice and i didn't have to wait to long but the technician took me into the"exam" room and asked me what the issue was why i brought my dog in. I tell her four specific issues and she took my dog into the back. I thought i was waiting for the doctor to come in when tech returned with my dog and pushed a rabies vaccine on me which wasn't one of my four things. She then tells me the vet examined my dog and all is well. Door said doctor would be in to discuss. The doctor comes in and started yammering on about my dogs teeth and that she needed a dental which was not one of the four things I asked for. I asked her about my dog shaking her head so often and she said it could be from her teeth? I'm assuming she looked in the dog's ears while examining the dog out of my view but I can't be sure I had other questions but I figured I was not going to push it and I just wanted out of there not my kind of vet appointment. I like to be present when the vet is looking over my dog so I can see they're looking at each issue rather than take it into the back and come back and say they examined my dog. I won't be going back.

This place was love at first visit! I just moved to Texas and my pup had a major allergy flare up and needed to be seen. I was able to request an appointment online (sunday) and received a call Monday AM and was able to be seen that day. The facility was clean, the staff was all very nice and compassionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely seem to care for the well being of the animals. At this time, my only concern is their hours of operation as they are closed Wednesday & the weekend, so potential issues over the weekend or if fully booked during the week could pose longer wait times in the future, otherwise I highly recommend!

Not very personable. I didn’t appreciate the vaccines being pushed even after I said I would wait on those since I didn’t have my vaccine record on hand. Definitely felt like they were trying to rack the bill up.
