How to Save Money at 4 Paws Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have been taking our pets/ babies/ foster kids and strays to this facility for over 14yrs and have experienced nothing but courteous, compassionate care and superior customer service! I would not trust my fur kids with any other clinic. Dr J, John and staff ROCK!! Thank you for all that you do!!

Took my dog and her puppies in for tail docking and dewclaw removal. The staff including receptionist and vet techs were very sweet. I can only speak for them as I never once met the vet that saw my dog and her pups which I felt very odd and unusual as I’ve never taken any animal to a vet and was not introduced to or greeted by the vet. At first I figured I would meet and speak with them after visit was concluded but even then I wasn’t. My main concern was they didn’t dock the tail to the runt which I understand 100 percent they gave him iv fluid under the skin again good!! But told me take him home bottle feed him we will see him Monday he will be fine.. not even 8 hours later and he’s passed after following full instructions. I feel he should have been admitted with continuous iv fluid for hydration but I was not even offered or suggested this whatsoever it was take him home bottle feed him he will be fine!! I’m severely upset with this situation and feel I should’ve been suggested or offered admission with iv fluid which I could have very well afforded and have done if they suggested it… they obviously knew he wasn’t well off if they didn’t want to dock his tail in fear of it being to much on him.. so they knew he wasn’t ok!! As I said this is my problem and not meeting the vet at any point as well but the ladies up front were nice and vet tech was nice as well .. but I wouldn’t recommend due to not meeting vet at all and the poor judgment and recommendation which resulted in a pup dying that could’ve survived on continued iv fluid ..

This used to be a wonderful place to take your fur babies to. Not anymore. Rude staff. Make an Appt and they make you wait 40 minutes in the hot lobby and then tell you the prices for unnecessary things and it is going to be anywhere from 1- 3 hours before they will be able to vaccinate them. Just read the recent reviews - there is no exaggeration here. I would rate a zero too if I could. They DON'T CARE - When I lost my 18 year old dog in October of last year - I called to say I needed to have him put down - I didn't get a call back for 3 days....YES 3 days....

Extremely disappointed with the service at this veterinary clinic. Despite having an appointment, I waited for two hours just for a vet to see my dog. The front desk receptionist seemed disorganized and prioritized other clients over us, despite arriving earlier and others were checking in after us. This lack of consideration and inefficient management of appointments has left me with no desire to return. Definitely not recommended.

Very nice people who care about pets. My dogs are in great condition and I was in and out of there very quickly because they maintain good records. Great work and amazing front desk.
