How to Save Money at Central Texas Veterinary Speciality and Emergency Hospital- Round Rock

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

During a very difficult time, the emergency vet office provided exceptional care and support. The situation of having to put my cat down was made as comfortable and seamless as possible. Their kindness and generosity cannot be expressed enough. Dr. Shanzee was incredibly empathetic and thoughtful throughout the entire process. She explained everything to us with amazing patience and compassion. Her gentle approach and understanding made a heartbreaking experience a bit more bearable. We are deeply grateful for the care and support we received from everybody on staff!

I’m very grateful to all the doctors and staff here who helped my guy recover. He was not an easy case and everyone was always willing to find out what he needed. While visiting my sick guy I would sit in the back and got to witness first hand how they took such good care of all the animals that came through their doors.

I had to take my dog to Central Texas 2x in the past month and unfortunately the final time, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him cross the rainbow bridge. Both times they were very accommodating and compassionate. When he crossed, they waited until I had everyone there who wanted to be. The vet with the floral memorial cat tattoos (sorry, I didn't catch your name) was so sweet and understanding. Although we met under very unfortunate circumstances, I am so glad that I chose to bring him here because it went as well as I could have imagined. Thank you for taking care of Cash and I during the end of our journey together.

We brought our precious little fur baby in because she was very sick. The front desk staff, vet techs and veterinarians were so kind and compassionate to us. We would go back and visit her and everyone was so wonderful. Unfortunately she passed away and we are absolutely heartbroken. We are trying our best to move through the grieving process however we have to keep opening the wound. We are owed a considerable refund and we have not received it. We can only talk to front desk people. The office manager is never available. They are making us feel guilty for calling but we just want our money returned. We’ve been told it will be 5 days, then a week, then 2 weeks. Yesterday we were told up to 4 weeks and corporate is in Florida. We just want close this chapter and be able to move forward.

My dog had a surgery with Dr Bevan on 10/16. I am pleased with my experience with the medical team, Dr Bevan and Amy but I am very dissatisfied with the treatment I got from the front desk person, named Kimberly Brown. I spoke with her twice before surgery and at the check out. She is rude, condescending, and showed a complete lack of compassion. Not only did she not explain the charges and processes, she made me feel stupid and bad each time I interacted with her. She was curt, cold, and uncaring. When I complained, she blamed me for her behaviors. It is an outrage that CTVSEH hires a staff so unqualified. Your logo states “Powerful medicine. Exceptional care.” Kimberly Brown certainly failed at delivering exceptional care, which makes me wonder whether I should trust your hospital with my pets’ care. I am a well to do pet parent who can pay any prices for my fur babies. I just wonder how this hospital would treat poor pet parents who are distressed about sick babies. Avoid at all costs.
