How to Save Money at Willow Bend Vet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve taken our dog Sadie to Dr. Brinkley her entire life. Everything from first vaccines, minor emergencies to end of life care. Dr Brinkley and the staff are compassionate and make sure you understand all options for the health of your pet.

EDIT: Although I have nothing but praise for the vet himself, unfortunately, I will be finding a new practice to go to due to the administrative staff. If your pet regularly needs medicine refilled, this is not the office for you. I called and texted the office about needing a refill urgently as I'd lost track of how many pills my dog had left. The voice-mail and texts were never replied to. When I called in two days later, I was told they were ordering the medicine, and it would be here on Monday. Monday rolled around, and they still had not placed the order. By this time, my dog had been off his anxiety medicine for several days. As a result, when we left the house, he had accidents in his crate, ate them, and then threw up several times. Very stressful for both my dog and myself. If this review was just for the administrative staff, it would be 1 star. Original review: They take good care of your dog, even if he has anxiety. Used to go to Banfield. They wouldn't let me go back with him, even though they prescribed me his anxiety medicine, and it rubbed me the wrong way. The staff are super patient and genuinely care about your pet, even if your pet isn't the easiest to work with. Glad I found a vet I can feel confident in for my boy.

We started going to Willow Bend on the recommendation of a friend/coworker because our Shih Tzu had been "banned" from being groomed at PetSmart (they had recommended we sedate him to groom him). I fully admit that Steve (the shih tzu) was a jerk with an attitude in a few situations, but the team at Willow Bend were amazing with him and I NEVER felt like he wasn't welcome or cared for. Steve passed about a month ago from congestive heart failure (and what appeared to be an additional complication). He had been getting sicker for about a year, and when I brought him in, the kindness and compassion of the staff made a very difficult process easier. It's clear that their patients are like family. I highly recommend Willow Bend from the groomer to the staff to Dr. Brinkley.

Best doctor and staff ever. Unfortunately our cat passed today on the way to the vet, and doctor and the staff did the best to comfort us and they tried their best to bring her back. She had 2 surgeries there and it was very pleasant experience back then as well. He is very caring and professional. Very smart and knows what he does. They are also very affordable. He’s honest and doesn’t charge for stupid stuff. I really do truly recommend this vet and I truly thank this vet for comforting us today. Thank you doctor and staff.

Super sweet staff. Solid vet that I've used for years. These guys are the only ones where the pup doesn't freak out and anxiously try and escape the hit squad. He actually likes them. And if my dog says you're legit, that's good enough for me.
