How to Save Money at Thrive Pet Healthcare

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They are great, but beware of surprised charges. Just make sure you ask for cost related to every little thing. I'm my opinion, not very "affordable pet care" as their advertisement suggests. Other than that, the service is great. Very thorough with their exams. I'm still going to go there, but just a heads up on $$$

Affordable pet care is finally here! Thrive has super intuitive website to book appointments and have 2 great locations in McKinney and Plano. Took my golden retriever to diagnose his ear infection! Doctor was super friendly and answered all our questions. Explained to us in details about the ear infection cause and remedies. Overall , was worth the visit and super friendly staff 🙌🏻

This place used to be great but it's become really disappointing recently. They denied refill of my Rx order for flea/tick and heart worm twice before telling me they needed to see one of my dogs to refill it. So I made an appointment for my dog to get a check up and sent a request for refill that same day after the appointment was over. I thought it was finally going to get taken care of so I forgot to check the order. Then, when it was time for my dogs to get their monthly medicine I found that my second dogs medicine never came in and they failed to fill the Rx again! Before this, appointments have become very difficult to make. The app sucks, but its the only slightly convenient way to make an appointment. If you try to call you get a call service instead of an actual employee at the clinic. I've requested vaccine records so I can take my dogs to a new vet and there is no actual "vaccine record" page, it's all confusing and doesn't make any sense. I will say though, the vet techs and vets themselves have always been friendly. But it's time to find a place that has a more streamlined system.

This clinic was the worst mistake I’ve ever made. I brought my dog Ace in after he swallowed a collar and he needed surgery same day. They quoted me $2,000 for surgery. I agreed and they took my dog. I picked him up that night after surgery and they handed me a $4,000 bill stating the surgery took longer than expected therefore costing more. I explained that they should have at least called me and let me know this. I paid and walked out with my dog. A week after surgery my dog began throwing up and his abdomen became extremely bloated with fluid. I called Thrive and took him in the same day. They looked at Ace and said we do not have enough proof that this is from surgery and said there was nothing they could do. I was shocked. The discharge papers say recovery is 14 days. I left their clinic and took him to the animal hospital where the vet told me that this is fluid build up from a leaked intestine and my dog had an infection. It was too late. Our family dog died that same night. In the second picture, you can clearly see, how his body had a build up of fluid. I didn’t receive not one phone call of concern from Dr. Garibay at Thrive. Not one phone call to check how he was doing or an explanation of what could have gone wrong after surgery. Do yourselves a favor and look for a place that actually cares about animals and not just a paycheck. We lost our dog because of this place.

Great Service!!! They are taking extra time to see patients & keep everyone safe (pets, let parents, staff). But it's how they, the vet techs & veterinarian, took time to talk to me and give/text me important info on at home care, that has me pleased. Making the initial appointment was a bit hard because there are several clinics in the area (I'm still new here). But everything after that was great. I highly recommend this veterinarian office. *The cost of veterinarian care are lower all Thrive Vet locations. It's appreciated since I have only had rescued doggies. The best price is when you become a member. **And I highly recommend becoming a member. I believe it would be good especially if you have a senior or predisposed sickly fur baby. Their prices even without membership are impressive. The care so far has been excellent!
