How to Save Money at Animal Medical Center of New Braunfels

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We recently changed to AMC and they have done a great job! We have had to take our very anxious girl in for frequent lab draws and they have been great with her. One vet tech in particular ( I don’t know her name) has been especially kind with our Gypsy girl.

Everyone there are so kind and courteous. My cat was having some medical problems. Come to find out after an ultrasound was done there, she had cancer, and her heart was in failure. My sweet girl of 17years had to be put down. The doctor and vet tech made it easy for her to go peacefully. . I will Always recommend Animal Medical Center, they are the best!!!

I have taken my dog Chewbert here for years and cannot imagine ever taking him anywhere else! He is reactive and highly anxious and they take their time handling him and are always very kind and patient. They work with me on making it as easy for him as possible while ensuring everyone is safe. I cannot recommend them enough and will continue to take both my dogs there!

While everyone has different experiences and levels of care given, I don't usually go off reviews but feel the need to place one is warranted. I have had different vets across different states and when I first came here I found them to be rushed to get you out. When I came in to ask a quick question the receptionist was on the phone and the other two were either on the phone or speaking with another client. I stood back and waited my turn, when the front desk person hung up the phone I stepped forward and she rudely told me she was helping someone else. So Is stepped back then when another client came in with their dog one of the other front desk people came out and walked passed me to go over and love on the other dog and talk with the owner. That was strike 2 the one that was the last straw was when I took my pups in for their annuals and they weighed them and ended up putting the weight of my male dog 58 lbs down for my little female dog and I found out when the pharmacy called me for the medication I was having filled did not match the weight. Now her former vet paper work had been transferred to this vet and they could have seen the most she has ever weighed was 45 - 48 lbs. And they gave her the annual shots based on the wrong weight. And when I called them they said well that is what is in her charts. That may be, but she has never weight that much her brother on the other hand has and does. Told them I would bring her back in and have them weigh her if I needed to prove to them it was a mistake on their part. They went ahead and approved her heart prevention meds, but I did take her back in and had them retake her weight and update her files. That as well as never being able to get through to them on the phone(even Allivet pet pharmacy couldn't get through) was the final strike and I ended up going back to our old vet in Stone Oak when I had an emergency with one of my pups for I just couldn't trust them. I really wish they had worked out but this is not my first rodeo with vets and I was very disheartened with the care.

If I could give a 10, I would . First of all I want to thank Dr. Williams. My wife and daughter had to bring our Sheltie Sandy to cross the rainbow bridge today. It was a very sad and emotional day but Dr Williams and staff made it much more comforting. It’s never easy but they took care of my boy. Second I came in the day before and Dr White and tech Jess were so wonderful to my GSD Heidi and cat Misty I can’t thank them enough. First class veterinary hospital
